Ik MA is hungry and chomping at the bits to get started in playoffs. Thoughts?? MA has real speed and as good as passing game is rb is quick and runs like his mama chasing him with a belt! Much respect to Swain as a program.

Mt.Airy SHOULD roll in this one. But it's Swain county and you have to throw out their record. I've never saw an SMC team this late in the season that wasn't physical. Mt.Airy has too much speed with skill in this one and will handle business at home.

If this year's MA team is anything like last year's, it could be a long night for us. The ball control game we played last night will not work next week. We'll be looking at a lot of 4th and long.

I’m a firm believer in you stick with what got you there but I also believe you should throw everything but the kitchen sink at them. At this point of the playoffs especially 1AA they are no cupcakes.

Bears are alot better on offense and line play. U will have to score 40+ to beat them.

Mount Airy will be to much for Swain this year offensively. For Swain to have a chance they will need to play keep away , have great secondary play so their front can focus on the pass rush and run game. Good luck to both programs and stay healthy.

I’m not going to give a prediction in this one for good reason. I can tell you this and that is Swain has nothing to loose. They know nobody is going to pick them to win. They will come in focused and play as hard as they can play. If they win great! If not then they need to have that pride that they played as hard as they could and leave everything on the field.

I wish this matchup was next season as Swain will be much more improved next year. But you have to play with the cards you are delt with this years bracket. If Swain was a seven seed I could have seen them come out of the bottom bracket to the regional final.

Not gonna happen for maroon devils this year.they just not typical swain team this year.swain has had big powerful backs in the past.the veer just struggles with a 130 lb running back that's 5 ft 5in maybe.the line is one of worst I've seen at swain.the qb is a better running back but swain has no one to qb.a young team as well.swain defense may keep it reasonable for a quarter but my airy way to good for this years maroons

I’m not second guessing the Swain staff and have no idea what goes on in practice every day but would playing the Hyatt kid at QB and moving the current QB to the backfield with Sain be an option? The Hyatt kid throws it pretty well and might add another dimension to the offense?

SwainDad40, what were the offensive statistics for last week's game against MIC?

Rushing: 59-267yards 2TD
Passing: 0-0 0 yards

Completely agree that we are going to have to open up the playbook and throw more vs Mt. Airy. Nothing fancy but enough for them to honor the passing game. If it is marginally successful then it will help opening up the running game.

Swain has no playmakers at receiver or tight end even if they had a true qb.all a defense has to do is play man to man with both cornerbacks on the receivers and let the free safety cover the tight end and put 8 in the box and the veer is not gonna be successful.

I've said since day 1 in early August---Stop Sain,and you've stopped Swain..It's very simple.
I'm just hoping for a SMC miracle for the devils come Friday.

The veer has been successful all season with 8-10 in the box except the Murphy and Robbinsville game. We have receivers and a good tight end. We just don’t throw the ball very often. Passing game average 25 yards per game.

Been successful? How about the other 3 losses? The veer could be successful if they wasn’t one dimensional. You have to have an answer when it’s 3rd and long. Swain does not. Coaches have too much pride to change anything. They have left a great junior QB on the sidelines all year. What is really going on at Swain?

The veer has been successful vs Tuscola and Franklin. Smoky we abandoned everything. So I would not say that was our game plan that day. If we had a passing game then we would certainly have had more success. Probably at least two or three more wins this season. Our running game would have actually been better because defenses would have to honor the passing game. No doubt Swain should have made changes in our offense throughout the season. We have a qb that can throw give him an opportunity to show what he can do in games as well. I’m not completely against rotating quarterbacks either by series or based on game situations. Anything we can do to win I am all for it!

Again I say no receivers.the one or two times swain throws they line sain up at wr and who do they throw to yes sain.swain most productive offensive showing was vs cherokee and we lined up in shotgun all night.the line is awful and the backs are size of jv players.swain will not beat quality opponents until the line improves drastically

Swain ran the ball last week with 11 in the box, that's smc football, stop us if you can.

Just keep running the ball all night and you will find yourself down 3 scores and wondering what do we do. Just ask Murphy
Your exactly right! If Swain don’t try something new it will be a long night in Mayberry!!

I like MA in this one, but there is something to be said about these mountain teams come playoff time and the weather is cold, I know this isn't a typical physical Swain team, but they just beat on MIC last week, they didnt attempt a pass and still won, anybody just lined up and ran it right at MA?

This doesn't even make sense. Murphy was very balanced offensively last year and are most years. Murphy's QB is at Western now for a reason. I mean Murphy lit your defense up to the tune of almost 500 yards of offense: 232 passing and 248 rushing.

Murphy's offense wasn't remotely the issue or the reason they lost to Mt Airy. Murphy lost because they inexplicably kicked the ball to your playmakers on special teams and because Holder and Smith ran all over Murphy's defense to the tune of 272 rushing yards an almost 11 yards a carry.

Didn't know your QB is at Western, that means he has a Mitchell county boy blocking for him. He went as a preferred walk- on this year and starting guard.
