So, how about we focus on what is going on down there right now? Anybody have any news? I don't find anything coming out of conventional news outlets down there, no ESPN pick up yet. This is odd if something this momentous really did happen. Thoughts? Updated info?

Typical of ESPN. They ignore bad pub for their chosen few, maybe it'll go away. Cubelic of SECN is reporting i.

He has a skin condition that causes that. Not cool to make fun of a person becaus of an affliction. Josh is a great young man with a very bright future.

Agreed, Jalen Hurd sees himself as heavily entitled.

Reports out of Nville are that Hurd wanted to transfer last year and do it the right way after the season. He knows he either needs to run from the I formation (Like other large RB's like Derrick Henry at Ala last year) or switch positions. Word is that Jones promised him they would put him behind the QB a lot if he stayed. Hurd took Jones' word and stayed. UT hasn't held up to what they told him they would do.

I have mixed thoughts about this. 1) A player should be entitled to think an offense should be built around him. 2) It doesn't appear Hurd had this attitude. He was going to transfer quietly at the end of the year to a system that better fit him. (Think about a Wiltjer transfer.) 3) If (I know that's a BIG 'if') Jones made a commitment just to keep a player from transferring, then didn't do what he promised then that's a bad deal for a player which could hurt a potential NFL payday.

This is football, but I can't help but see the Wiltjer comparison. Calipari didn't respond out of desperation. Cal gave Kyle his blessing and continued checking on him after the transfer. KW still loved UK, and UK fans wished him well. Bottom line - Kyle is today in the NBA and cashing a pretty good check. I doubt this would've happened if he stayed at UK. KW did what was best from himself and Cal supported the kid. That's manhood.

I'm not accusing Butch. There are a lot of "if's" I'm sure there are two sides to the story. But it makes you appreciate coaches who have enough confidence in themselves to put the players first.

I bet Hurd aint the only one gone either.
A few more will surface belly up as the week goes forth.

UT just doesn't want it to look like the cluster f it is.

I am not following you on the recruiting. Tennessee is in the top 10 in the nation right now In recruiting. the state itself has 13 four Star players and by comparison the state of Ohio has the same amount 13. with the way the state is growing they will only continue to produce even more talented players in 10 years they might have 18 - 20. 4 star players.

With any luck, they stay 'close to home' and come to Kentucky over Tennessee with all the trouble they've got right now.

There is some head scratching to this to me.

First off... Hurd allegedly says that a year ago he is told they are going to run more I-formation and they do not do that this season. So... did they practice I-formation plays all spring and fall? What led him to believe that they were going to change the offense mid-season? If they really did run those formations in practice and not in games then I think he has a huge grievance and I think the team does as well because they weren't calling plays that were practiced, especially when they may have only been calling them as a deco to keep Hurd.

Second... I don't understand the two contradictory remarks. Hurd wants to be a running back that is used in the I formation or some other scheme that is going to get him in front of a full back. He is so adamant about this that he makes the coach promise that he will run these types of plays and because of that promise he stays. Yet, when he is forced to go and transfer the rumor is that he knows that he will be changing position to play either wide receiver or tight end. Why wouldn't he just look for an offense that runs the I formation? Is it clear to him now that he won't really be a great NFL back at his size and speed and that is why he decided to change positions? Why did it take him another year to come to this realization?

Just all seems a bit strange to me, but we only know part of the story.

Suspect at least a couple of Vol Kids are being blown up with texts from their football office today. "Sarge needs to speak with you... Urgent!"

I hope he wasn't the only problem and that the chemistry isn't all of a sudden fixed just before we roll into Knoxville.

I imagine that he is not. You have to wonder just why the team cannot seem to get things started in the first half of games this year. Logistically it is likely due to some coaching issues and the players are probably feeling that. Hurd thinks the offense would be better with an I formation and they, to my knowledge, ran a lot of that in the bowl game a year ago and in doing so Hurd racked up 130 yards and a score. If others are concerned about the offense not being the right fit for the players then there may be plenty of turmoil. I know a lot of UT fans are very upset with Dobb's accuracy and ability to throw the football, and a lot of the players, especially the wide receivers who are being missed, may be upset about this. Still... we're talking about a team that has only lost three games. I know they wanted to be in the playoffs, but they really aren't all that far off the rails and weren't really off of them at all before the USC game because they just needed Florida to lose one game and then they could get another crack at Alabama in the SEC title game. So, I feel like there may be a lot of unrest there since the wheels kind of came off so quickly and in a relatively successful season.

They ran out of the i Formation the majority of their bowl game last season

True, but if you're in spring practice and they are running the read option and you thought it would be the I formation then you would start to wonder. If it doesn't change in the fall then you have to be pretty damn suspicious. So, UT was either practicing the I formation but not running it, or Hurd stuck around despite no real indication that UT would hold true to their promise. Either way it is weird.

Jones also said in his press conference that Kamara might be able to play against Kentucky.

Just like they SHOULD have beaten a horrible South Carolina team starting a freshman QB for the first time

That kid ain't no normal "freshman QB". SC will be a hard get starting maybe even next year. I laughed at the WM hire, now I'm worried ill be eating crow like the rest of the SEC.

Via his personal Twitter page, Tennessee sophomore defensive lineman Jonathan Kongbo cryptically tweeted out this image:

Not exactly a positive sign following the tough defeat to South Carolina.

The redshirt sophomore out of Canada was regarded as the top JUCO prospect in the entire country last offseason. He signed with Tennessee over offers from Alabama, Ole Miss, USC and Florida State, and was expected to immediately bolster the Vols’ pass rush.

SIAP but this particular tweet was about his favorite soccer team that lost in the playoffs and had nothing to do about his future at UT.

Who knows what is going on...

I'm more concerned with UGA at this point...

also, let's not forget that the ship appeared to be sinking here a little over a month ago and we've gone 5-1 since...

all a team needs sometimes is a little adversity, a reason to close ranks circle the wagons. Not sure I want a cornered, hurt, emotional Vols team and staff that's got nothing to lose.

Make no mistake about it...this is playing right into UKs hands.
You had a UT team that thought they were real special after starting out 5-0.
Now they are banged up, have lost 3 straight including one to a very avg. Gamecock team and now their top RB is gone.

We gonna go down there and clean house.

Once again, you can only play the teams on your schedule. And fortunately, UK is 5-1 in the last 6. That's all you can do because no one is beating Bama this year.[/Q
Actually, losing fulmer hurt their program. He was the snitch of the south and was allowed to cheat to keep up. I have family that played at UT. If people only knew what was going on in that program when he was turning in others. UT has not been the same since the NCAA looked the other way for Fulmer. It's not the coaching changes that have hurt them, it's the fact that they no longer have the cover and are now what they are. A recruit-less land locked state that is just an average program.

The SEC E is horrible. Call me when we are beating terams with at least a decent .500 record.
Hey Einstein....VU and USC would be 5-3 if they'd beaten us. See one of the reasons they are only .500 is they LOST to UK.
