Agreed, Jalen Hurd sees himself as heavily entitled.
Reports out of Nville are that Hurd wanted to transfer last year and do it the right way after the season. He knows he either needs to run from the I formation (Like other large RB's like Derrick Henry at Ala last year) or switch positions. Word is that Jones promised him they would put him behind the QB a lot if he stayed. Hurd took Jones' word and stayed. UT hasn't held up to what they told him they would do.
I have mixed thoughts about this. 1) A player should be entitled to think an offense should be built around him. 2) It doesn't appear Hurd had this attitude. He was going to transfer quietly at the end of the year to a system that better fit him. (Think about a Wiltjer transfer.) 3) If (I know that's a BIG 'if') Jones made a commitment just to keep a player from transferring, then didn't do what he promised then that's a bad deal for a player which could hurt a potential NFL payday.
This is football, but I can't help but see the Wiltjer comparison. Calipari didn't respond out of desperation. Cal gave Kyle his blessing and continued checking on him after the transfer. KW still loved UK, and UK fans wished him well. Bottom line - Kyle is today in the NBA and cashing a pretty good check. I doubt this would've happened if he stayed at UK. KW did what was best from himself and Cal supported the kid. That's manhood.
I'm not accusing Butch. There are a lot of "if's" I'm sure there are two sides to the story. But it makes you appreciate coaches who have enough confidence in themselves to put the players first.
