Lots of football disappointment today (yesterday). Regarding UK, they were not going to beat 'Bama but after looking at the stats there is one crazy thing I cannot get out of my mind...offensive tempo.
Gran came in here as the play caller for a Cincy offense that averaged 83, 74 and 78 plays per game 2015, 2014 and 2013 respectively. UK ran 58 plays against 'Bama and is #117 nationally averaging 64 PPG.
That is a pretty big difference and I don't think it is due to QB play. In fact, Johnson is better suited for up tempo play than Barker.
In contrast, Dino Babers took over a terrible Syracuse program (now 2-3 and unable to stop a toilet) but he has the Orange playing his NASCAR offense and averaging 90 PPG! They ran 88 plays in a 50-33 loss to ND yesterday.
So what's up with the (unexpectedly) slow offensive tempo?
Peace
