I know. I had an account there. For a couple of months, I worked next dooras a night auditor at the old Ramada Inn, before it was turned into the University Inn. That was where the visiting football teams would stay on the few times they came up to Starkville (back then, all the big games were in Jackson). I particularily remember working the night the Miami Hurricanes were there....Jim Kelly, Vinny Testaverde, andMark Richt were all QB's on that team (yes, THAT Mark Richt).

In 84 it was The Bank! I remember the blue sign that said just that. Sure it had to be of something, but the sign just said the bank.

With the university's plan to get to 25,000 students in the next ten years(I think), it seems like the condo/apartment scene should be easy money.

I worked in the older location during my freshman and sophomore years, in the Sack N' Save shopping center, and I worked there when we moved the store to where it is now. We moved half the inventory of that store using garbage bags. It was a mess.

I want to say the owner, John Hendricks, bought everything in that shopping center from The Lodge to the other end of that building (the non-Harvey's half).

Bonus question: where was the FIRST Lodge location in Starkville? The current location is the third.

Opened my first account there when I arrived in 1979. Eventually moved my account to Security State before Deposit Guaranty bought them out. It was only the second office of that bank that eventually went belly-up in the early 90s. After the bank it was Burger King then a church.

that eventually evolved into a "no-frills" grocery store. You could go in there and buy "all-generic" groceries in large, bulk sizes.
