The people outraged by Stansbury's offensive ineptitude need to get your heads out of your asses

I scream, drop GD's, and facepalm at Stansbury's offense as much as anyone can... but I accept the fact that if we want great players (i.e. a great recruiting coach) we are going to have to make sacrifices in other areas (coaching). If stansbury, who is a great recruiter and solid defensive coach, was ALSO proficient in offense.....then his name would be JOHN CALIPARI and our program would be as historically successful as Kentucky (as to have the means to hire such a coach).
**Disclaimer: I really don't know much about Coach Cal's X&O prowess but he's a great recruiter and due to his success everywhere, I assume he's pretty solid in the coaching area also**

The reality is that with the kind of basketball program we have (mediocre at best), we don't get to have a premier basketball coach. Premier basketball coaches are reserved for premier basketball programs. I think we can have a great X&O's, a great recruiter, or a mediocre mix of both....but we can't have it all.... we just aren't there as a program....we are MSTATE**.... I think the recruiting coach is the correct approach for us because if you don't have good players then who gives a flying-17 how good your inbounds plays are.

For those arguments about us always falling short in tournaments....NEWSFLASH! The stars are going to have to align in basketball more so than any other of the big 3 sports for us to make a big run....Just like the stars aligned in '96. Its funny that the "star alignment" theory is generally accepted by MSU fans in regards to potential football success... but it is apparently unacceptable in the sport (basketball) that it is most needed and relevant...to any team. That's what makes March Madness so great. All we can ask for is to be present for an interstellar alignment. Stansbury has taken us to the NCAA tourney 6 times....all prior MSU coaches combined for 4 (count'em, four) 17ing apprearances...EVAR!

I hate Stanbury's lack of offense so much that I used to day-dream about replacing Stans with a good X&O coach and let him coach Stan's recruits to a few great years which would greatly compensate for the loss of Stansbury's recruiting prowess.... But I then came to the conclusion that with the turnover of players in the college game, that our new coach would have 1 year (maybe 2) to do something special before we had a team full of mediocre recruits, but they would be 17ing rock solid fundamentally**..... and then we'd realize that we were an Ole Miss caliber basketball team.

The both have good defenses but believe the best offensive strategy is to out-athlete the other team. When they recruit the way they do (they use similar recruiting techniques), that works to some extent but their teams will struggle when playing other talented teams with good coaches. Proof of Cal's end game coaching prowess is hanging in the rafters of Allen Fieldhouse.<span style="text-decoration: underline;"></span>

Basically a lot of our fans watch very little basketball beyond MSU and are way overly critical of every little mistake we make because of the emotional investment that we all have.

As I say this, I am watching Billy Donovan come up empty at the end of regulation and OT just like we did.

..Stansbury had damn near 10 minutes to draw up & discuss the last play of the game.

Then his players went out onto the court & acted like they were apart of a Barnum & Bailey clown act.

compare Donovan's decisions to RS lack of good decisions. Billy Donovan has earned the right to make a mistake, because if he was at State no one would question him. Why, because State would have 2 more NC then it already has. Jesus, Donovan = RS, wtf????

are you agreeing with me or disagreeing?

are you saying that I need to use more powerful, negative descriptions?

Or, are you saying that it wasn't Stansbury's play-calling, but it was the players lack of discipline in execution?.... which, by the way, circles back to a lack of offensive coaching/preparation

Check your reading comprehension. I was not comparing the two. I was showing that even good coaches screw up at the end of games.

...I'm mocking your claim Stansbury was on the court as an active participant in the game.

Donovan has a title because of three legit NBA players.

But we have four! Just check the notoriously inaccurate nbadraft.net for proof.

Never seen anybody get so mad about a top ten lose. Akron yeah I'm pissed but this was Baylor and we dominated the game. I don't care if you don't like blaming the refs but fact is we are third in the nation when it comes to not fouling and in a game that looked more like a bar fight then a basketball game they get 17 free throws to our 7.

If your really looking to place blame it goes to Dee. That is the worst game he ever played. Also it was obvious Sidney is our most talented player. In big games he shows up even with people booing him for wearing maroon and white shoes instead of white and maroon. Also Florida lost to rutgers, do you think their message boards are collapsing? It maybe but for a terrible reason. The last team to go undefeated was Indiana in 1976, so every team since then have gotten beat so stop critizing and support your team.

thought he is really a good recruiter. He has 2 offensive sets...the Stall and Motion (three man perimeter weave, perimeter screens), no zone offense. Can't spell back door cuts or back screen. He has 1 defensive set Man to Man, no press whatsoever, and absolutely no zone defense. If that's your definition of a coach then I guess Rick is a coach. To me, he's just a recruiter that gets by with the kids he brings in, because he really cannot coach.

Expecting a different outcome

Im not sorry but glad to say too everyone and anyone who support The Limptisic Retardation of shitastic anomolies Stankbury directs or constructs......For yall are 17'n suffering from Craptastic Optical Delusions superior to the Heavens Gate purple planet x hijackers....or have never played nor watched basketball.

"Primo" Coach (what is that have to do with anything?) The dude still doesnt know how to use Timeouts...and as far as the last play, he confused them by trying to draw a play up....has anyone noticed that we actually have pure free ballin talent and StankB has had to coach til last play??

that we would suddenly jump into and wreak havoc on opposing teams. The only time I remember us using it was with Brandon Vincent at the top. I assumed that we didn't have a capable power forward in recent years to utilize it, but Shirley Moultre is athletic enough to be up to the task.

<div>Two of the most insane acts he does- never properly uses timeouts and never tells our guys to attack the basket when we are cold from floor, need a comeback or just simply play basics and take it to the rack. For MSU to attempt 7 FT is pure coaching amazing (or mob owned Refs, which played out in the end, you dont call a tech in that layer of a game, dude just fouled out of game, been hard fought, he is stupid and young so let him be upset, hell they been cussing yall the whole game, the overback WAS NOT A FOUL most days, the call Quantum Leaps the momentum, and the Ref has to ignore verbal discharges at that time in game, Sydny is just another you know what and I blame him for nothing, at least he is smarter than his coach butnot to attempt a FT after 13:00 2nd hlf explains and backs new but confirmed Theory of StankberriumCrapo Shitacularism.... The only Reason we ever got to final four was from the 1-3-1 and maybe a Diamond press.....well apperently those tactics are not functional for State cause....well its a history lesson at this point.</div><div>
</div>I mean did he really have to think about an inbounds play at the end? Yes. You learn that play in Biddy Ball, run your best player off a double screen or have him throw the ball in etc etc etc, call a TO, use every single one of the 6 you get, till you get Dee the Ball.....Get Dee the ball asap, No No No No yall...listen.....they are going to expect that so lets send Dee to the Corner were he is gaurded in three areas, one being a human and others painted stripes...... But if we had Marcus Grant as a HC you stack your players, use Dee as the Decoy, run your cross and down screens back screens any screen.....and have someone like Hood or Moultrie or Bryant or Meo Drive to the gosh damn rack. You will get fouled, make a shot, parlay both or get swatted.....<div>
</div><div>Draw a play up.....amazing that they have never worked on that play apparently....also if you have TO's and your 'best' player doesnt get the ball in 5 secs...call TO</div>
