This Board is Ridiculous

It absolutely amazes me to see the overwhelming negativity on this board filled with posters who know next to nothing about football or what it takes to build and maintain a good SEC football program. I love the fact that our fanbase wants us go for 8-10 wins year in and year out but it just doesn't happen like that overnight. Yes we should have beat Southern Miss and yes we should have played Florida better than we did. BUT, since that game, the obvious amount of improvement this team has shown is so apparent the Three Blind Mice could spot it. Stoops has taken over the playcalling on defense and nothing short of a miracle has happened on that side of the ball. HUGE improvements. Holding South Carolina and Vandy like they did is impressive and so is Holding Bama to their season low....

Now all of those people who were calling for Barker's head are the same people calling for Johnson's head... Give me a break, these kids are young and in their first of Gran's system. There are going to be some Kinks. We have a tremendous running game and an O-Line that has been consistently improving.

This team is obviously improving and obviously fighting for Stoops and Staff. Stoops is our coach and I fully support him and this team. We WILL get to 6, hell maybe even 7 wins this season still and if I am wrong I will come eat my crow with no excuses. Have some faith guys and gals. We are 2-2 in SEC play with a real shot of going at least 4-4 and our team is improving every week. GO CATS!!!

We WILL NOT get to 6 wins. You're delusional. We are a 4-5 win team right now at BEST.

Come see me at the end of the season. I don't know what of any kind of friendly wagers we can make on it but I'd be willing to bet just about anything on it.

I hope the OP Is right. I don't think this team has a shot in hell at 7 wins. 6 wins? Maybe, if they can beat MSU...then they have a shot if they can split the Missouri/UGA stretch.

If we'd have hired Bobby Petrino four years ago it wouldn't be septic. Unless you hate winning football games and watching your QB win the Heisman Trophy.
I knew that was the source and debated posting it . You're best bet is to become a UL fan if Petrino is the coach you've always wanted because you're going to remain miserable otherwise . I'd rather lose every game and shut down the program than have Petrino as coach . I got what I wanted when we passed on him and not for a second have I regretted that .

I just love how these new posters pop up to tell us all how our lack of success, is due to us just being bad fans. Mitch, and all your sunshine pumpers can pound fricken sand. Beat a Sec team with a pulse, and then I'll be fully on board. Seriously, I'm happy that our players won, but spare me the transparent moral lectures on fandom, just because we expect a higher standard to be met. We beat stinkin Vandy at home, and some of you Stoops nut huggers thinks that gives you the moral pedestal to start pointing fingers. Pfft.

So because I'm a "new poster" I'm not as credible? Thank you for further proving my point about this board being ridiculous. I've been following these boards since 2005 and have just recently decided to post on here when I see fit. This is a time I see fit because people cannot seem to comprehend that this team is fighting and improving due to their blind hatred of Barney & Stoops. It's absolutely insane. Get over yourselves. Are you all going to cry and complain when we beat Mizzou, Miss St and AP as well? We lost ONE game we should not have this season. We can just as easily get one back. Get over it.

Ok. We get 6 wins, and I'll gladly quit posting for a year. We don't, and you can take your 18 posts, self ban and go back to the Louisville board, or wherever the hell you came from.

If you had not put so many donuts in your mouth you wouldn't be obese.
Perhaps the 'Curse of the Bear' is real and BP would have struggled here too. Since it didn't happen and we don't have a time machine we don't have any way of really knowing.

I wonder what even a mediocre half against Southern Miss would've changed the mood of the board. It'd be brighter I'm sure. However, the fact is we lost a game we should've won. The conventional arguments were that this team didn't have a lot of margin for error and we blew what little we had of it the first game of the season. 6 wins is possible but it means winning every game we have a chance to. It's something UK has rarely, if ever, done to finish the season. I don't blame the fans that don't see 6 wins on the schedule. Also, posters like me are upset that 6 wins is our goal. It's not a lot of fun.

I'm not obese and there's no such thing as curses. He's an elite coach. There's no debate about that among serious adults. Only a damn fool would pass on him to hire Mark Stoops.

The folk saying it's no big woop to beat Vanderbilt were saying last week after they played Florida close that vandy would win.

And then we won so the story changed so they can cry some more.

Some people aren't happy unless they're unhappy and will be damned if everybody else doesn't share in their misery.

This team is exponentially better than it was the second half of the first game and the Florida nonsense. Once Stoops took over the defense and cut the power to Eliot's headset, the defense has been better than anybody anticipated coming into the season. The run game is getting better all the time, and if Barker can come back from his injury, we'll have a deep threat again.

I like where we're headed. I like my team.

Did you expect 8-10 wins this season??? Because I sure as heck didn't... I expected 6-7 wins and an improving team for a breakout year next year of 8-9. We are on track for that IMO.

Like I said I'll take friendly wagers and I will come eat my crow if I'm wrong.

Am I in the wrong for believing in this team and this staff when they have given me reason to over the last 4 games in which we have gone 3-1 an held the #1 team in the nation to their season low in points and dominated TWO SEC teams? When is the last time that happened?

Frankly, I thought Vanderbilt was a toss up, so I didn't make a prediction. We could have just as easily lost that game, since they drove to the red zone with plenty of time. We had a lot of luck on our side tonight, whether or not you care to admit it. Has our Defense improved?..............absolutely. But damn, let's be real, Our defense being serviceable now, does not equate to 6-7 wins. That's just ridiculous. That doesn't make me negative, or wallowing in unhappiness. It makes me a REALIST.

what on earth are you talking about?!? you have no QB and your HC has NEVER developed one in his life.
How many defensive coordinators develop qbs? Just wondering because stoops has had any input on an offense for three years.

We have been behind eight ball once Neil brown was picked for the Troy job. The offense (even with Patrick towles was looking pretty good with a staff here more than one year). The Dawson hire didn't work out and obviously wasn't his first choice but what we were left with. He made the move as fast as he could and Gran and hinshaw are on year one. And are dealing with a back up qb (who was brought in for a backup roll and had no others power five offers). After the barker injury. Everyone in the stadium knows he isNt a gunslinger, and we have to run it to be successful, and has produced back to back home sec wins. (When has that happened?).

Mark Stoops isn't the defensive coordinator, he's the head coach. It's his responsibility to develop the QB or see that someone else does. And he has failed. Inexcusable to be in this position in year four.

Poster posted never developed a qb in his life? All I'm saying is how many defensive coaches (what his background is in Btw) can coach a position he has never coached or played? He hires a staff to help in their expertise. I just explained why the qb hasn't developed. No one expected Neil brown to leave after year two for a head coaching job. And hat has led to three o coordinators in four years. Kinda hard for players to develope with someone new installing new reads, technique, etc every year. The Dawson hire was bad but obviously wasn't his first choice.(not many people are wanting to come to ky by the way and choose Oklahoma over us for first pick). He made the move and brought in someone with more experience. Then barker goes down. If you expected stoops himself to develope a qb (or any defensive coach for that matter) I got got some ocean front property just outside of Lexington for you.

I don't care for so called realist takes. This is sports, not life saving medicine. Go nuts and enjoy the ride. If you're not, you're wasting what little time you have. This is the team we have this year, and no major changes are coming until after the season regardless. Fretting about it will do nothing.

As to the offense, that's why i put the Barker qualifier in there. There's no threat of the deep ball, or really anything over 15 yards if we're honest, so defenses can really pack it in. Smaller fields are harder to work with. Which makes what the running game is doing that much more impressive to me. Get Barker back and we can loosen that up some. Everything gets easier as a byproduct.

Go big blue, right? Let's do this.

You're correct that gojvc hasn't developed a QB but gojvc isn't being paid 3+ million dollars per year to see that gets done. Staff turnover is something that all coaches deal with, that is not unique to Mark Stoops. He is the CEO - he has to make sure the job gets done. He has failed. Is there a chance he could succeed in the future? Perhaps, just like there's a chance I could win the lottery. But we're fools to take those low odds when there are better options available.

This team could honestly start rolling.
We have won 3 of 4 with the lone loss coming at #1.
We have a bye week before playing a poor Miss St team in Ky.
We then go to Mizzou who is having a losing season.
We then come home and play a Georgia team that has lost 2 straight and could very well lose a 3rd at South Carolina tomorrow.
Then a rival gm at UT.
Home for cake v AP.
Another Rivalry game at UL.
We could run the table.

Poster made comment that stoops has never developed a qb in his life, all I said was how many d coordinators develope qbs. I explained part of the problem. But if you think Mark stoops, Kirby smart, bud foster is going to develope a qb themselves is quite laughable.

Same as Hal mumme wasn't going to develope a defensive end.

His staff had an unexpected turnover as they were making good strides. Last year was a failure and at least he wasn't afraid to make a move very fast to help that side of the ball. But barker was the starter up until week three and was getting most of the work in fall camp. The back up might get, 20 percent of that to prepare. And that's what we are looking at. Barker looked great first half of southern miss. And I honestly think the fumble (looked funny going to the ground) in first possession of second half was something that led to his struggles.

Johnson was brought in as an emergency back up in case something happened this year. Allowed to keep a redshirt on hoak if barker went down. Johnson has played well for his skill set (remember he was recruited at grambling not Florida as cam Newton was). And game managemnted us to two sec wins. And that's all we can ask for.

I promise you Stephen Johnson is better right now then when he stepped on campus in the spring. And that wasn't getting starter reps. Barker was getting a majority of those as he was the starter with a new offense.

If you're satisfied with what you're seeing then fine. If you're not satisfied but you don't think anyone should be held accountable then that's up to you I guess. Excuse substandard performance all day long if you want. That's up to you. But meanwhile, 80 miles to the west, our rival QB - who is coached by a man we could have hired - is going to win the Heisman Trophy. Because that coach doesn't give a damn about your bull shat excuses.

You said developed a qb. Johnson is limited as to what he can do but has gotten better. Petrino is an offensive genius we get that and has been known to develope qbs. Johnson was brought in as a band aide in an emergency that has been forced to play. He wasn't brought in to lead the program. He provided depth and that was it. He was brought in to allow hoak to keep on his redshirt if barker went down. That was it. He has been forced in to playing and if you think him (or for that matter anyone else in the country is going to play to jackson athletic god given ability. Petrino has made him somewhat better, but what makes him special is his raw playmaking ability and 4.3 speed those can't be taught like a Randell Cobb.) you will always be disappointed. At the time we hired stoops petrino was not an option (still under investigation for legal wrong doings at Arkansas and 16 other power five schools also found a coach that year without giving him an interview btw). The guy can coach, but I honestly believe he would still be at Louisville should we have hired him.

Good grief. He wouldn't be at Louisville if we had hired him. And Johnson wasn't brought here to preserve Hoak's redshirt. This is a desperate coaching staff. If they thought Hoak was better than Johnson then Hoak would be playing. And don't even try to discredit Petrino when it comes to Jackson. Petrino is running a completely different offense than he had ever run before in order to maximize his greatest asset. And it's working spectacularly. Most coaches can't/won't do that.
