Coaches see the issues on the roster with no talent, all skill positions, no linemen. This will be a underwhelming hire

It’s called recruiting - not only high school but also with the one-time transfer rule, a head coach that brings hope to the program will get this thing turned around FAST. Also, there is A LOT of talent on this roster who just need to be coached up… and a lot of talent that need to be used that aren’t right now. Lastly, any coach worth anything isn’t just looking at the current roster - he’s also PRIMARILY looking at the recruiting potential in the area. These coaches want to recruit THEIR OWN players that fit the systems they’ll run; not the previous coaches’ players who fit the previous systems.

An underwhelming hire has been done the last 3 hires. If they hire a competent coach who understands the value of running and stopping the run USC will be extremely successful. Look at what happened last night. Oregon freaking state has created an offense with power running and quick passing and there defense was solid they did this with no top 20 recruiting classes. Jonathan Smith would be I am sure a u underwhelming hire who could build a much better football team then what we are currently watching. We aren’t getting Saban, urban, Dabo…. So anything short of that may be considered underwhelming but we need competent recruiting here is a lot easier than Corvallis, Iowa, Kansas…..

Many coaches take jobs at places with way less talent so that logic doesn't make any sense. However the enormous amount of pressure to win makes the job less attractive without a very large pay day.

If it pays enough, it will be a "top job". But yes, the program in its current state is not attractive. Players with no confidence, weak assistant coaches, a fanbase that expects instant miracles and is stuck in 2008, Uni leaders that dont prioritize having a winning program, and the conference has a bad TV deal and seems to be missing the boat on the SECs plan. As I posted before, USC is going to get a "never was" and will be a giant crapshoot no matter the name. They need to find someone who does care about USC football, is passionate about getting to the Top 5, can bring in talent from the South and Texas high schools, sees the job as endgame and not a stepping stone, understands and will use/abuse the transfer portal and how being in LA can lead to huge NIL payouts. Pete was luck, pure and simple. Maybe Bohn will get lucky.
