Look at the Johnson/Smith threads over the past few weeks and tell me SJ got a break because he was not a Kentucky kid. Lol
  1. Ditto to this: SJ got the same "breaks" that Smith, Whitlow, Pringle, Bonner, etc... received. Same for Dale Brown in basketball .... competing with Ritchie. Everybody knows that KY kids tend to get the "breaks" if anyone does. When new coaches come in, their recruits always seem to get the advantage, too, i.e.... Braylon Heard

it needs to be an open competition at this point. He's done a great job at managing the offense but you have to wonder what a decent Passing or Dual Threat QB could with this offense. My goal one of these days is to fgo into a season with a returning QB that there is zero debate he is the man.
I don't recall debate going into this season. It seemed to be Barker's position all the way.

Really hard to say. In Barker's first half, he was exceptional, made some NFL throws, hitting tight windows, all the things you want out of a QB.

But Johnson is winning, which is the most important thing in football. That means alot to coaches.

Will be an interesting spring that's for sure. I believe all 3 QBs will get plenty of chances to win the starting job. 2017 is too important for the coaches to make the wrong decision.

Alot depends on these next 4 games. To win the East next year, we have to beat teams like Ole Miss, Florida, Georgia and Tenn. Is Johnson a capable enough QB to win those games?

If he shows up in the spring over 200lbs and with improved accuracy, may be hard to beat out.
You can't beat experience AND winning something Johnson will have both of we we stay on this streak.

There's going to be games where the run game isn't working. If , Johnson doesn't improve his short passes, like the ones he's been missing to the TE, we're not going to win. He does well on long passes. I'll be surprised, if we can get by Georgia without a passing game.

That is why I specified returning QB. I want to go into a season with a proven QB and zero debate who will be the starter.

Needs to be a wide open qb race in spring practice next year. May the best man win.

SJ hasn't been a world beater and Barker we haven't seen enough of at this point. And we have no idea if Hoak or one of the qbs may be the true stud we all want at qb.

Every position, every year should be wide open for the best player IMO. I'm sure if someone was better than Tom Brady the Patriots would start that person

Not a world beater ? He's been a world beater for UK, name another QB who came to UK, had never taken a snap until the year they got here and has a record (including SEC wins) like his with his only defeat to #1 Bama and SEC WEST powerhouse that steam rolls everyone. I don't think you can. He might not be the best in the end but some of you people are unfreakin real, sure there should be competition but anyone that does not think he is the clear leader going into next year at this point is nuts.

I said it in another thread, but I'll post it here too. SJ may not have the talent of Barker, or Hoak, but he has something that I haven't seen from a UK QB probably since Couch...poise and natural leadership. There is something to be said about the intangibles of the position, and he clearly has those.
I think SJ has earned the starting role going into spring, and Barker and Hoak will have to take it from him, IMO.

Great info on your part, but they can't update their site - GS was 2 teams ago??
When I click on the link, I arrive at the SEC QB stats and they are current. Nothing about Grambling State there, so I am confused.

Do you see GRAM next to his name under the team column?

And then click on his name:

No guarantee that Barker's back doesn't end his career.

From what I am hearing, it's a degenerative condition that's not going to get much better, only tolerable. That being said, Johnson throws an ugly ball sometimes. God bless CJ Conrad, he should have 10 extra catches and 5 more TD's this year save for the fact balls thrown his way were a foot behind, over or down and impossible to catch. Hearing good things about Hoak, I think Clark gets a redshirt next year. In decent shape at QB.
