To all those with a sudden man crush on Furrey: CCU stats

ODU scored 47 points and had 629 yards against Coastal.

Georgia Southern had 45 points and 653 yards against Coastal.

We had 51 points and 579 yards.

Might wanna pump the brakes on the exuberance over our performance. Furrey's resume as a college OC consists so far of one good half against a good team who playing like total crap, one horrible half against a good team who was playing well, and then an offense performance against a Sunbelt team that was on par with performances by ODU and Georgia Southern.

It's baffling to me that we've muddled in mediocre offense for most of the last decade, and some of our fan base are falling all over themselves for us to hire a guy who has a 1.5 game track record, one game of which came against an atrocious offense. Then our fans sit and wonder why we're always mediocre or worse.

I don't think you're taking into account how totally awesome ODU and Georgia Southerns offense is

Furry won't get the nod. Beamer's future depends on hiring a capable, proven OC, one who can get the most out of Sellers. Shula tried to make him a pro style pocket passer behind a less than efficient OL. The entire season offensively looked like last year's bowl game. No QB can make 3 reads within 1.5 seconds in a half-a$$ pocket.

Are there really more than a handful of fans who are ready/hoping to hire Furrey as OC?

I hope not. Have seen some reporters and a bunch of fans speaking glowingly of his offense so far. A number of fans on here think he should get the job.

Nothing is fair or rational about this alleged OC "audition".
Most OCs get an entire off-season to install their offenses.

But if Furrey/Elliott are able to deliver something v. taters, then we might have something to consider.

It kind of feels like us blowing the halftime lead vs A&M. It's at the same time utterly impossible and absolutely inevitable.

Our offense has been in neutral for the better part of the last 30 years. I'm sure Beamer'll dig up another antiquated fossil for an OC(just like the pro tater BOT wants) they'll sell some BS about how our offense will be explosive next year like nothing we've ever seen, and our gullable fans will gobble it up, and we'll be right back here this time next year after the same three stooges act.

One thing that gives me hope is Beamer's statement that "we're not going to go through this thing again". I am hopeful in that statement that he means he's done pussyfooting around with the offense and intends to make a serious hire this time around.

Wonder what he means by “this thing”? Just this season? The generally sluggish offense his whole tenure due to asleep at the wheel OC’s? Can’t be the second one because he hasn’t gotten any OC hires wrong. That was the narrative push back a couple weeks ago.

The proof that Shula sucked is it was all we could do the beat sc state. A least we could score on CC.
22 has been riding the bench and preforms well against Cc.
if we beat Clemson it goes to show how bad Shula really was.
not saying furry should get the job but way better than Shula.

If this season had started with the offense we ended last season with, we could easily be bowl bound. Yeah, another season with no bowl and the seat will be nuclear meltdown-hot.

Reporters and talking heads always want that because they like those coaches as people. This business and they always take it personally.

I was fishing when I first saw the score. I still knew there was less than 50% chance we would hold on. I just knew. We all did.

That’s the thing about it. It really wasn’t all that frustrating and not surprising at all because we all did indeed know. Now it’s absolutely frustrating that we knew it could happen.

Doesn't matter what stats you pull or whatever anyone here thinks. He's going to be the next OC. This is the pattern. There is literally no chance Shane hires anyone he has never worked with or had any close association with. That has rarely ever worked when you bring in anyone and they start adding "their guys". It's entirely too risky and disruptive. All Saturday did was seal the deal.

How many times has this been said over the last 5 years... he's not going to hire anyone he doesn't know or isn't somehow closely associated with anyone on the current staff. Not happening. Why do fans continually lull themselves into thinking this?

He can hire someone who will make his tenure at Carolina longer or he can ''call a friend'' and start working on building his buyout and move to the more suitable position of ''recruiting coordinator''.

How many asst coaches did Beamer hire when he was first hired? How many of them did he know? Your logic is flawed.

He knew Satterfield for 20 years. Clayton White for years. Justin Stepp for years. Greg Atkins for years. Mike Shula for years. It seems like he only hires coaches he knows personally. The answer to your question is all of them. The butler's logic is far from flawed. 🙂

I'm more of an optimist I suppose. But I won't be one bit surprised to have this guy announced as OC. If so, hope it works. It's Shane-O's last hurrah.

Yep. If it doesn't work, Shane will be unemployed next year about this time, and he'll have nobody to blame but himself.

In the CCU game, our offense looked a lot like a backyard offense.

It was "Run a route, if I think I can get it to you, I'll throw it. Otherwise I'm going to run."

There was no flow at all, the CCU defense was missing a bunch of players, and we still couldn't throw from the pocket.

Our offense is still "drop back and hope" with a few minor exceptions. The dime to Jacobs in the OU game is one exception.

All of them? I clearly remember him asking Matt Ruhle about Satt.
Seems "knowing someone" can mean lots of things.
If you "clearly" remember, then please tell us what would he have to ask Ruhle about one of his best friends that he couldn't just ask his friend about?

Wasn't Satterfield a groomsmen for Shane? Or was that an internet joke?
