He's not a good passer, and even if he doesn't play us like LSU got played, we'd still only have him for 3 years. It's going to take him as long as it's taken Tyler Russell to develop into a decent SEC QB, and in his case, by then he's going to be gone anyway. He would be a hell of a signee for the baseball team though.
Believe me, they want him. The issue is whether Alford wants us. Cohen would have no problem with him playing both sports- Dan and Cohen have a pretty good relationship and Cohen is a pretty big football fan.
I'd say that Alford is more than likely a running back. His vertical leap is incredible.
He would fit MSU baseball because he could step in and probably play left field with CT in CF and Woodruff in RF with Taylor Stark in the mix.
But more than likely, he's going to go play MLB.

was something like 40% I think. That doesn't usually translate very well to the SEC if you are a QB.
Pretty much everyone who evaluates players on a meaningful level would disagree with you. He's been a top QB recruit for like 4 years.
Not saying Alford wouldn't be successful, but if his completion percentage really is forty percent, I'm not so sure he deserves that big ranking as a QB... He is a great athlete though.
That's why I went through the trouble of saying EVERYBODY, not just Yancy and Steve, that evaluates thinks Alford is a great QB prospect. Cotton chose Ole Miss over like Kansas State. Every network, a bunch of coaches, and a bunch of voters think Alford is pretty damn good.<div>

it's HIGHLY unlikely he doesnt sign a baseball contract. The LSU's can afford to take the risk- we cant. We have some critical targets on the board right now with limited space. And he isnt a difference maker at QB- he would almost assuredly RS in football with the two guys he has ahead of him if he did go to college.<div>

Do I want him as a football player as an athlete? Yes.
Do I think he will play QB anywhere other than a SWAC school? No.
Do I want him to be our QB? No. Not anymore than I would want Bumphis, Jameon, or Jonathan Banks.
Ask the Dylan Favre fans about my QB evaluating skills. I'll be the first to admit that I'm no Bill Walsh, but I trust myself more than Rosebowl and Yancy. And unlike them, I don't have an agenda. The people "evaluating him" are telling him he can play QB for them because they know that's what he wants to hear. Whomever gets him will switch him to WR or RB after fall camp. If you don't believe that happens, ask Jimmy Johns.

That's not a scheme problem, that's an accuracy problem. He's a great athlete, and if it weren't for baseball, I'd say definitely sign him, then redshirt him and have him ready toplay by his redshirt SO season. But I don't want to spend 3 years of scholarship for 1 year of decent productivity.
Because of all of the crooked stuff that went on back in the day like Bear Bryant giving swimming scholarships to football players.
It wouldn't make sense to do it anyway because a full scholarship in baseball really hurts you because of how the rules are- 27 players have be on a certain percentage of a scholarship- I think 33%, so it could hurt us with other recruits down the road because we wouldn't be able to offer as much. That's why Cohen cut Forrest Moore's huge scholarship.
Unless you have a guy that is a legit two year guy that is a Bryce Harper type talent, a full baseball scholarship is not worth it. I can't see Cohen doing that with Alford, as good as he is.

Most of the posters on here who want Alford really badly don't seem to realize that he would most likely be Prescott's backup at the QB position. Prescott is more accurate and bigger and just about as good of an athlete. I'd love to have alford on the football team, but I'm with coach, it seems risky. </p>
