Making a trip out there in February and am curious to know if it's worth the play. If so, which course should I play? Which one do they host the tournaments on?

South.I played it a few months after the last US Open there and it was spectacular. Go ahead and make yourtee timenow. They will only take tee times 60 days in advance so make sure you get yours before they fill up. It is a haul up there fromdowntown SanDiego. We were "having a good time"so we got a cab and it was a pricey ride. Worth it all though.
We're staying pretty close to the course in one of the resorts... I'm going to try to book a tee time this week then.

Completely agree. its really awesome. and they have a flight simulator that is awesome. its $16 to ride it, but it is worth it. when you make the plane go upside down, you actually go upside down. i had my girlfriend hanging upsided down almost the whole time. ha ha. its really neat! but the whole tour is awesome. and the restaurant next door to it is freaking incredible. and make sure you go to La Jolla Cove. you won't regret itIrondawg said:

Some dude in a muscle shirt is likely to walk right in front of you while your on the tee box just pulling his pull cart and paying you no mind. North couse is old style greens sloped back to front, south is modern. A great place to play though with incredible scenery if the fog is not whiting it all out. Get online and look for green fees, some of the residents get tee times and sell them cheaper than a visiter can pay.
Like someone said it IS a municipal course. The locals pay about $25 but you will pay $100-150 depending on course you play. The South is tougher and more challenging than the north and it costs more. The views are amazing and we actually had a coyote come out of grass and run across tee box. If you get off the fairways, look out!!
Never played there but I have lived in the San Diego since July and it everything is fantastic. The weather is near perfect and so many things to see and do. If you get the chance go on one of the Hornblower dinner cruises and make the trip to Old Town. Mission Beach is pretty cool too - has a few amusement rides and some shops and a beautiful beach front area. If you like beer you will love it - San diego and the surrounding area is quickly becoming well known for its microbreweries and though I haven't tried them they are fantastic. I personally recommend the Stone Pale Ale and the Stone's Arrogant Bastard Ale (named after C34 perhaps or mere coincidence.)
