Get the 17 over it. We wear gold and it helps us in recruiting. How is that a bad thing. You take your tradition, I'll take recruits and wins. Oregon, Maryland,BoiseState....all have limited exposure whencomparedto the big boys. Hell Georgia started the black uniforms craze. Notre Dame started wearing green jerseys. Anyone catchMichigan'sgear on Saturday? If anyone holds tradition as holy it is those schools. They sport unique uniforms, ugly or not, they get priceless exposure and recruits attention. Welcome to 2011. This is how the game is played nowwhetheryou like it or not.

This is what I don't get. We have fans that argue against using the exotic style uniforms, because they like the traditional look too.

Well, if you look at history, really with both of our schools, we really don't have all that much tradition with our uniforms. The helmets have changed multiple times. The patterns have changed. The overall look has changed. Ultimately, I agree with you. I'd be fine if we had 12 different uniforms for 12 different games. That's what the players like. It's what recruits like.

As much as the blue hairs don't like it, they aren't the ones winning football games.

From a friend sitting in his office, talking to his face. Mullen said that the different uniforms are for recruiting and the current players. They like them, that is good enough from me. I don't give a damn what we wear if there is a remote possibility that it might help us in some way.

Not saying it happens right away but when you sell yourself to recruits as being cutting edge and up with what they relate to it helps. Even Bama tinkered withtheirs last year with "Pro Combat" theme.

Standard maron jersey with a gold number. Looks decent. I guess its somewhat represents the egg bowl trophy being gold and all. Or maybe I'mover-analyzingit.

Who cares. I think the only 'cool' looking State uniforms I've ever really liked were some of the old school jerseys from the 40's. The helmets from the JWS days were good. From what I've seen fro mthe Tech Fit by Adidas they look pretty good. I'd guess that is what we'll see at the Egg Bowl.

I friend of mine is a big Maryland fan, and I was giving him a little grief about it. He hates the new uniforms too. But he has a son in 10th grade, and he said that he and all his friends love the crazy modern uniforms, and that's all that matters. I had to agree. It is no different than a fraternity, sorority, etc., you have to appeal to your market. Our market is high school kids. <div>

people who get bent out of shape over some uni tweaks for 1 game are stupid. and people that carry on about traditional unis and denying that for a school like msu, traditional unis don't mean **** to recruits are dumb. not saying we need to go completely oregon, but wearing something different once or twice a year isn't a bad thing.

1. You are correct that uniform looks have evolved over time, just as the equipment has. Nobody (except for maybe of couple of brain-injured people) would advocate going back to leather helmets with no face masks. Yet the BASIC look of the school colors remains the same just as the BASIC equipment i.e. helmets, shoulder pads, jocks, remains.

2. School colors were selected by (usually) long-dead alumni as representative of the school. Some changed slightly over time, but the schools are generally associated with the colors selected many years ago. This is the identity of the school for both the students, alumni, fan base, and all others.

3. While trends may come and go (along with respective players) the BASIC school colors remain the same. Neck rolls were popular in the 1970's and 1980's but have been replaced by something else. So were wrist bands, head bands, horseshoes on facemasks. But no matter what the school colors remain.

4. Logos have evolved and/or changed. But the school colors remain.

5. I understand that uniform styles change as well as fabrics and helmet designs. But, the BASIC school colors remain the same. Why allow temporary attendees of a university that play a sport to determine what represents the university? Some small concessions are fine but who in hell wants their school to look like Picasso is in charge of it's sports program's image?

6. If a recruit's decision is based primarily on who has the coolest uniform, then Penn State, Alabama, Auburn, USC, OK, or Notre Dame would have very few 5* recruits. All of them would be standing in line to attend Oregon or Boise State. You can bet your *** that the players at Alabama are their primarily because AL WINS. Their uniforms are almost as plain as PSU's so I do not buy the "have cool uniforms and they will come" line. If we win consistently, we will get some recruits. But not because we wear some black jerseys.

7. This has to be one of the most dubmass aspects of today's college football game. As I said, I don't mind a few changes or concessions but Mississippi State colors are Maroon and White. If this is a problem in recruiting then change our damn colors by vote of the student body and/or alumni or hell, even the Mississippi Legislature.....they love to 17 up anything besides tending to business....

...of course Bama, PSU, and the like are going to recruit well without having to change up their uniform. They have GREAT tradition. But Oregon, Boise, and others have shown that if you don't have great tradition (like MSU) then you can sell kids on being hip and cool instead of old and traditional. It's just a way to close the gap between the haves and have-nots. As a have-not, we should be exploring every opportunity we have to distinguish ourselves (uniforms included).

Those helmets look really nice with all of our uniforms. I don't really care what uniforms they wear. I would prefer they drop the black jerseys for some maroon with silver accents and get some silver pants. I just think silver looks better with maroon than black does if they are going to wear some special jerseys.

I feel sorry for those people who hate any change to the uniforms because they must hate our "tradition" of changing them up as much as we change coaches. If the jersey's that our team wears because the players and recruits enjoy it gets them in such a hissy, I really feel bad for them when something important in life changes.

Over the last few years. I am sure USC has too. Auburn might have, I dont recall, but they dont really need to because they have some of the sickest unis in football. <div>
</div><div>I guess people that don't get it just aren't going to. Personally, I like a little variety regardless of whether it impacts recruiting. That said, it is a factor. It may not be the biggest factor, but it is a factor.</div><div>
</div><div>Also, this whole "arr cuhlers are maron and whit by Gahhhhd" crowd is just ridiculous. Are we changing our colors? No. We have some complimentary color accents on our jersey for the Egg Bowl, we wear a black jersey once a year, give me a break. </div><div>
</div><div>Now, I would have preferred charcoal gray or something like that to gold, but I am at least open minded about it. </div>

The school colors are maroon and white. The colors are not changing, there are a few uniforms that are alternate colors that still incorporate maroon and white. I guess you despise those pink towels the players had for breast cancer awareness month too because they were not maroon and white?

It is not like anyone is trying to change the colors on you folks. It is just a couple of alternate uniforms that any idiot watching one of our games can clearly differentiate from our traditional colors of maroon and white. If people have to only see maroon and white to be reminded that our colors are maroon and white, then god help us because this world is full of imbeciles.

our school colors. However, I did say I have no problem with some concessions, especially on an occasion or two. I also said that I understand uniforms and equipment evolve. No problem there.

I just disagree that this somehow sways a recruit to a school and looking cool while getting your *** handed to you just doesn't sit well.

And, "our colors are maroon and white". Only an 80 yr old Vickburg resident or ******* speaks like that. I like being part of the maroon and white crowd.... "ridiculous" or not.

I was not meaning to rail either. I was just arguing your point that you made before saying that you were ok with some changes. I guess I was more arguing with people that you can see their side of the story from, if that makes sense. I see their point about being married to maroon and white, but I don't see where wearing alternate jerseys once or twice a season is divorcing them from it.

I apologize if my comments came off as calling you an idiot or imbecile, I meant it only as a way of showing that the alternate jerseys would only make an idiot or imbecile think those were our traditional colors since that is what a lot of people are afraid of.

But just so you can claim a victory, I will say that, yes, I really do not care for the pink stuff on football teams. Breast cancer is a horrible, horrible, disease and deserves every human effort to eradicate. Wearing pink patches or emblems is fine. Pink accessories is just gay..........

The point again is that neither of our schools is Alabama, nor will we ever be.

That's why we have to market ourselves differently.

If you're RC Cola, you don't market yourself the same way Coke does, or you'll never survive. You have to find more creative ways to market yourself or market yourself a specific niche market. Oregon has been helped more by Nike money than Nike uniform experimentation, but the uniforms don't hurt.

The young players today like the uniform changes. They like different. That's just the way it is. Any way our schools can differentiate themselves is a good thing. Sure players aren't going to choose us if we're getting our butts kicked in Pro Combat unis, but if they like the uniforms AND we're playing decent, it's just one more check mark on the pro side that could help.

My point in the argument is why not? Does it really matter what the team wears? Personally, if the players were motivated by wearing black and yellow bumblebee suits and it caused them to win, I'd be more than happy to watch them do it. Given that we compete with you, I hope you stick to traditional uniforms and never change them, and I hope we do the opposite.

We lose every time we put the black uniforms on. And before you throw the La Tech game in my face, that was as much of a moral loss as I've ever seen. It seems like the only uniform that would sway recruits our way would be one made out of $100 bills.
