Hey guys, does anyone have any news on how things are looking at AHS for the Spring/ gearing up for Summer sessions and next season? Any of the boys hitting the weights, working on speed drills or anything of the sort?

They have a veteran coach from SC and they are usually pretty good on offense. They can score 40 plus most weeks regardless of the level of competition.

They have a running back, Elijah Burris, who is committed to UNC. They turn over their roster every season, so beyond that they are hard to predict. Typically do not like physical football. Watched them lose in playoffs to a subpar Swain team that Murphy beat by six TDs. One thing for certain, they'll have athletes.

Every year it seems it’s the same thing with MICS- a ton of athletes but never can gel. I’ve joked and said if you took a coaching staff like Murphy’s for instance and put them at MICS it would be ridiculous what they would do to teams. But between like mentioned above turnover every year, and what seems to be too many chiefs and not enough Indians on the sidelines, they never can get over the hump.

Yes Mountain Island has a lot of athletes, but their line play is always lacking relative to the top tier teams in 1A/1AA.

Having plenty of skill athletes is not a big deal in most of the piedmont and coastal plains, the contending teams have good line play to go along with their skill talent.

I hope Ole Alby has matured enough to compete... but my prediction they start out 0-3

It all starts up front regardless of skill play. Many teams have the luxury of having chemistry year in and year out. Don't underestimate the power of running a system from youth ball to HS. Like most teams do. MICS is a charter school in a metro area. People want to talk about the unfair advantage which is true with charters but it's another price to pay with that advantage. Trying to get players to gel each year presents a problem The past two years have been plagued with injuries at key positions. I think it's just a matter of time MICS gets over that hump. The school is starting to fill up and that should help with gelling more.

Our lineman had MIC running scared 2 yrs ago. We was up like 33 to 7 before calling the dogs off. They came back on our backups and made it 42 to 34 or rd about.
Just line up a punch them in the mouth. Dont try to out flash them.

BK you never disappoint. Keep that same energy and don't change the narrative to "they should be in a separate playoff" when MICS gets over that hump.

RaptorRun, what is the school's enrollment looking like for next year? I know it has steadily increased since opening. What is the plan on enrollment cap?

MICS may not have success but they get the bigger picture which is to prepare kids for college. Coach Washington and his staff do an excellent job of getting their guys recruited. Love them or hate them, they care about their guys.

Appreciate the insight guys. If anyone hears of anything new pertaining to the Dogs spring sessions, feel free to drop a note on the thread here. Does anyone have any news on how Spring is looking ( i.e. prospective numbers, weightlifting, etc.)?

I haven’t kept up with them like I use too. They have the class men this year, so they’re not young anymore, but I wouldn’t expect a big change from last year. I’d expect middle of the pact. My personal opinion.

@Buddy Rich Great to see you posting again my friend! Hope you are feeling well. Thats's great news about the new weightlifting program started at the middle school. If it can stay consistent, it will pay dividends in the future!
