Ever since ole Wally sweet talked Brad Scott into scrapping the fast break offense(so it'd cover up Wally's deficiencies as a defensive coordinator) South Carolina's had offenses that were either not talented enough or the offensive play calling was too conservative/boring or both(lookin' at ya 1999). Even during the Spurrier 11 win years, gamecocks got too conservative on offense at times and it cost them. USC fell(sometimes fatally) in love with the zone read during those years while other offenses were moving away from it to the hurry up no huddle offense. There used to be a time when South Carolina was out ahead of the pack when it came to the offense they ran from the run-n-shoot of the late 80s thru the fastbreak offense that Steve Taneyhill was quarterbacking(they just didn't always quite have the players to make it go particularly on the line, at least we were trying to do something that'd attract fans and recruits). Ever since that day Brad Scott caved into his buddy Wally it's been playing not to lose offense. In that time this school has seen Marcus Robinson(criminally underutilized in college), Cory Bridges(could've been usc's version of Tyreek Hill if used right), Jermale Kelly, Brian Scott, Troy Williamson, Sidney Rice, Kenny McKinley(RIP), Tori Gurley, Alshon Jeffery, Ace Sanders, Pharaoh Cooper, Deebo Samuel, and even with all that talent coming thru the receiver room(several have made their mark in the NFL) USC in that time has been a 20-25 PPG offense and about 200-225pass ypg ofernse(and that's in the decent years). Shula's offense has been garbage just about every where he's been(reminds me of Bobo a few years ago). Shula does need to go, but even if Beamer is replaced. Expect more of the same on offense. Can't wait to see what boring behind the times fossil of a offensive coordinator they dig up next. Maybe they'll run the single wing or the T formation.
