I certainly don't know the ins and outs of HIPPA, someone in the know tell me,, how is it ok for the hospital to release info on what's in a patients system to anyone without the patients ok. I know the police can get the info if the individual is suspected of a crime but this kid was suspected of nothing. just wondering.
I believe as an athlete you sign the right to share your information away when you sign insurance papers. He was hurt on the field while playing for UT. That means UT's insurance is going to cover the expenses. Any insurance company you deal with will want to know what was in his system when injured. They have scores of reasons they can deny a claim and illegal drugs is at the top of the list. This is just a hunch but Im familiar with how insurance companies deal with on the job injuries and Im guessing this works the same way.
