UVA and NC State meet in ACC non-conference matchup

Can't say I ever recall hearing something like this. Both teams are, of course, in the ACC. However, the game was scheduled by the two schools as a home-and-home outside of the conference schedule. So, though a game between two members of the ACC, the game does not count towards the conference record.

I think a couple acc teams did that a few years ago. Duke and NC?

Edit: Looked it up, it was Wake Forest and North Carolina in 2019 and 2021.

Ah, gotcha. I figured it had probably happened before.

NC State had to scheudle the game last minute after cancelling a home and home series with App State.

ACC told teams not to play away games against mid majors.
