Forget the $2K... That's the bombshell. That changes every aspect of recruiting. I can't wait to read the interviews where a kid is trying to decide between us and Bama because Saban is only offering a 2 year ride but we'll sign him to a full 4.

...and since we seem to have lower attrition than other schools, could play to our benefit--we could be more likely to offer 4 year scholarships than other schools, and high-attrition schools like Bama and Ole Miss won't want to risk multi-year scholarships. <div>
</div><div>I do wonder, however, if there will be easy ways of getting rid of players with multi-year scholarships and simply calling it due to something other than athletic performance. For example, Saban has no problem putting players on medical hardship and not counting them against his 85 scholarship limit. </div><div>
</div><div>Players have always transferred out "for more playing time" and it appeared to be by mutual agreement between the players and coaches, and I guess that wouldn't change with multi-year scholarships. Only if the player wanted to make a stink about it would it be difficult for the coaches. </div><div>

You bring up a lot of good points. I wouldn't be too surprised to see the norm become offering 5-year guaranteed scholarships and then finding loopholes to get rid of players you want to get rid of. If you want to get rid of someone, you can always make their life so miserable they'll leave.

John Cohen and Mike Leach says that might have some unintended consequences.

Sounds good in theory and probably has some practical value but most player leave because they're unhappy with PT, homesick, don't like the coach or whatever. Most of the time a coach can find a way to run a player off.

But didn't Bama use some kind of medical loophole that basically didn't revoke the scholly but would let a kid play. How do you stop that - go get multiple Dr's to state the player is fine and file a suit? And what would you win - the coach clearly wasn't going to play you so why would you even pursue it unless you wanted to try and bring the coach down?
