The Lexington Herald Leader has an article by Mark Story about Lafayette’s QB Walker Wood this morning becoming the first starting QB since Shane Boyd from Lexington.

While it is an interesting article, the idea of a Lexington QB becoming the starting QB may not be the best thing for UK football. Kentucky has had two starting quarterbacks from Lexington:

Stan Forston -1968 (3-7), 1969 (2-8), 1970 (2-9). Shane Boyd – 2001 (2-9), 2002 (7-5), 2003 (4-8), 2004 (2-9). Both were from Lexington’s Henry Clay High School.

While most of UK’s career stats are held by quarterbacks from Kentucky, none have had a career winning record. By the same standard, I can only think of two quarterbacks, Babe Parelli (1949-9 wins, 3 losses, 1950- 11 wins, 1 loss, 1951-8 wins, 4 losses), and Derrick Ramsey (1976-9 wins 3 losses, 1977-10 wins 1 loss), who have had a career winning record. Neither was from Kentucky.

Walker Wood most likely will not be the starting QB at Kentucky. That heavy burden will probably fall on the shoulders of Danny Clark.

If Barker is healthy then I see a 3 way competition between him, Johnson (Smith) and Hoak. I would expect them to redshirt Clark, but who knows. Woods will likely play a different position but he may get a shot at QB. I believe he was promised a shot to play QB. I would think he might redshirt too though.

Wood is a good football player and you can see the athletism on tape. Pretty sure he could play any position he wanted too.

I saw Walker play last season. He's a player. Can really move around. UK could use more read option with him. Has some Johnny Football at AM ability. Seems like a great kid and teammate. Will be pulling for him

I wouldn't count him out at QB - exciting player and very productive- at some point but he would be a hell of a slot r and pr.

After he gets on campus, I keep saying two words in his ear over and over again: Randall Cobb.

As a quarterback, he's a fringe prospect with limited size and a middling arm. As a slot receiver, he could be a holy terror. Jet sweeps, throws out of the wildcat, tough over the middle yards--he'd be a nightmare to defend. Cover him with a LB or S and watch him light you up for 175 yards, cover him with a corner and he'll plow through them. He's not Russell Wilson, but he could be Hines Ward.

Too early to pigeonhole him at any spot imo. Plenty of time for his career to play out. But I do expect Woody Walker to be a big asset.

Not sure of his record but Rick Norton was a top NFL draft pick.

Not on offensive or defensive line. Just yanking your chain, I think he winds up in DB

I don't pay any attention to stats like this. How can you expect any QB, no matter where he's from to win football games in the SEC with the talent we have had in the past. We had a lot of problems in the past, but the location of where our QB was born or lived had little to do with our lack of success. Did the Clark kid commit to Kentucky already? If that's the case, you have to like that kids odds of being our guy at QB in the future. He has a lot of tools to work with. He could become one of the best in the entire country playing QB. He is the type of QB we need to take this program to the next level.
