Quick breakdown

Im an avid microwave user. Cook in bulk and microwave my meals is the standard. Lately every 17ing thing has been exploding. Hamburger patties, chicken breast, beef omlet, mixed veggies (a few individual potatoes, etc... And if it doesnt explode into smitherines it will just pop and fly off the plate/bowl into the corner. I have a cheap Rival microwave. I be willing to jump to the $100-$125 range if it would notexplode my food. Does anyone have any quality microwaves suggestions?

Thoughts/Discussion??

use lower settings, and longer times.
You can turn some foods into a piece of hard rubber or blow things up...I saw one Microwave burn a hole in the side.

Go slow, sort of sneak up on it...what ever it is. What's the hurry?

One more thing, if you are cooking something like a baked potato, wrap it in wax paper...why it makes a difference, I don't know, but it does.

</div><div id="aeaoofnhgocdbnbeljkmbjdmhbcokfdb-mousedown">In all seriousness, get a higher end microwave that at least supports multiple power levels. Also, you need to make sure that when you're cooking something small that you use a lower power level. Simply put, when a microwave dumps out energy at a rate of 1000W, it wants to put that energy somewhere, and if you don't give it anything to cook it will dump it back into the microwave oven itself. That ain't good. One more thing: get one with a carousel in it. It will largely prevent uneven heating.</div>

If crap blows up in the microwave, she can clean it up. Let me know if you need any more advice.
Great advice. Men ought to not post about cooking on a message board unless it is grilling meat!!

it's not a magic box, it's a microwave...

cooking something for 2 minutes at 100% < cooking something for 5 minutes at 60%

What happens is the microwaves heat the water molecules in the food, and if you're constantly assaulting your food with microwaves the water molecules get superheated, then frozen/liquid water turns to gas, which expands, and if that water is trapped inside your food.... BOOM!

If you'll drop the power and extend the time then the microwave will cycle the barrage so that it will be on for, say, 60% of the time and off the other 40%... it's during this 40% that the heat in the water molecules can disperse to the surrounding food, thereby heating more evenly.

It's more fun than you think and you can drink while you cook. Start out with simple recipes at first, it's not rocket science..
