I forgot about all the raises our assistants got this past offseason. Went back to look those up. Any guess which coach saw the biggest % increase???????

Lonnie Teasley! His salary jumped 65% from $410,000 to $675,000 from 2024 to 2025. Yes, the coach who oversaw one of the worst OLs in college football in back-to-back seasons in 2023 and 2024 got a 67% raise.

How is this even possible? It's bad enough that Beamer is too nice to fire a bad assistant, but we also give them massive raises??? Even worse than Beamer being a softie for Teasley, the BOT had to approve this gargantuan increase.

The BOT is a MAJOR reason we will never have success on the gridiron. If they are going to rubber stamp massive pay increases for coaches who are objectively terrible at their jobs, there is no hope for this program.

And now here we are in 2025 and our season has largely been undone by the OL. Unfathomable.

Anyone who donates a dime to this program should be absolutely irate about this.

It's time for Donati to assert himself.

He will at the end of the season. If we win 3 or 4 games there will be changes forced on Beamer.

Thank the Lord I don't piss $ away on this anymore.

For the past several years, I don't normally watch the game live. I will record it and watch it later. I do try to keep up with the score live.

I do spend a little too much time on this site which I may need to curtail.

Gradually weaning myself of this curse.

Wasn't this done under Tanner?

It was reported 12/18/24, the new AD was hired 12/5, so I would think it was in the works from the Tanner era

But still had to be approved by they BOT. They should be the firewall. I understand the BOTs usual job is to rubber stamp salaries recommended by the head coach and AD, but they should provide some minimal level of fiscal oversight to ensure that awful coaches are not rewarded with massive pay increases.

Pay can be clawed back for fraud, overpayment (miscalculation) or for violation of an employment agreement (failing to meet performance metrics).
Will it be? You know it won't. Donati fired Gary Patterson at TCU. Patterson led TCU to more national Top 10 finishes than Beamer has been a Head Coach. I could be way, way wrong BUT I don't believe Donati is someone to fool around with. He is not a dumba$$. He has a law degree. Beamer better get his act together and become a Head Football Coach, and fast, rather than a Head Football Cheerleader. That said, I know little and claim less.

Just replied to a post of yours on another thread and brought up the BoT so won’t repeat here. But yes, until they get it together this program will remain an underachiever.

I plan to do the same. I thought Spurrier ended our mediocrity after that 4 year run, but we have reverted to the mean. I have lots of other things I can do on Saturdays.

So Beamer should never be asked why the coach of one of the worst OL in all of college football got a 67% raise?

I understand he won't answer the question, but it should be asked.
The sports "journalists" (and I use that term loosely) in this state are mild-mannered wimps. They are afraid of their own shadows and, thus, won't ask the tough questions that should be asked.

I thought Beamer's demeanor on the sideline at Mizzo was much more reserved. I don't know if that was because we were on the road or if someone told him he needed to calm down a little on the sidelines. I would like to see the assistant coaches act a little more inspired and Beamer more like a CEO holding them accountable. White seems animated, but who else grabs players by the pads or helmet and chews on them after a missed tackle or a missed block? Stop being so nice when coaches and players aren't doing their jobs.

Yeah, it should be asked, but he would and should give a coachspeak answer of "evaluation at the end of the year".

If the hiring authorities had done the smart thing by studying our history, they would have seen that only those who had prior FBS Head Coaching experience have been successful in one of the toughest Head Football Coaching jobs in the nation. I would have hired a successful Head Coach from a mid to lower tier FBS school. That would not have been a guarantee. But, it would have given us a better chance and our football program could have been off to the races, building on Spurrier's success. But USC is its own worst enemy. It reminds me of when the Board of Trustees stayed back and let Holderman fire Jim Carlen. If that had not happened, I believe Carlen would have made SC a national power in the 1980s and 90s.

I gotta come back to this and wonder how it's not a bigger deal.

We had one of the worst OLs in ALL of college football for 2 years under Teasley (by any metric) and he was somehow rewarded with a 65% raise.

It's unthinkably baffling to me. It shows me how unserious Beamer is.

The same BOT gave Beamer two HUGE raises when there was no chance at all that any other program was going to even talk to him.

All college sports admins think they are playing with Monopoly money and the dollars they throw around are just numbers on a ledger. They have to view the fans, donors, ticket buyers and NIL collective donors with bemused contempt. They have to sit around in meetings and say "those idiots will pay whatever we tell them they have to pay and they will be happy about it".

But Beamer at least got his raises after winning seasons, right? I agree, there was really no reason to do it since there was no risk of losing him, but it's somewhat defensible from the results perspective.

Our OL was consistently garbage under Teasley and we gave him a 65% raise. I've never had a 65% raise in my life and I get consistently high performance reviews.

To me, though, it's more about Beamer's judgment. Even in his firing of Teasley, he defended the OL play.

This is a case when Ron Morris would have been helpful. Instead he spent his time beating up the best span of football we ever had. He also sucked at being a dixie youth baseball coach. Enjoyed wearing his team out.

He got raises & extensions after winning seasons but I have never understood the increases and the timelines. He put together 2 winning seasons the first two years. That is worth something right. A raise sure, but not more than double the salary. An extension, sure, but the extension put him on another 5 year leash.

This program has seen success (by Gamecock standards especially) early in a tenure only for it to end in a tire fire. Such had just cost them dearly with Muschamp. I still hold the belief that such generosity to Beamer was solely based on the 2022 TN & Clemson games. Kinda made people forget about the Missouri & FL games right before that. Looked kinda tire firery. And then 2023 happened, yet coaches don’t get pay cuts for bad seasons.

Then 2024 happened and another big raise and extension that keeps 5 years on the clock was given. No lessons learned from the history here. The W-L record looks good by SC standards. But considering how it’s all played out & what we know can happen & so far always has at SC, there should have been more discretion in granting the raises and extensions.

Our BOT and several other things have been infiltrated by CU alum and the like. Just look at the video playing on this board right now. It's Clemson highlights. My dad always told me that CU has always had a hand at keeping us mediocre from the inside.

A faction on the BOT, after being lobbied by some ex-players, pushed for Tanner to hire Beamer. Our BOT is a clown show.

I guess I think having winning seasons is what is expected of a head coach and not something to get a huge reward for. After 2022, I could see some sort of raise since it looked like the program might have been gelling into something good but not the almost tripling of salary they gave him. Then, 2023 was ugly as a mud fence. 2024 was a good season but Beamer was due to have one after his big raise. There was no reason to give him another 35% raise and a 6 year extension.

Beamer hasn't won any sort of championship, has a losing conference record, is only 7 games over .500 into season 5 and is 1-2 in bowls. I don't see any results that justify a raise.

If the offensive line has a decent showing against the nation's top defense, Beamer should be asked why Teasley was kept on. The answer might be interesting.
