I dont post much after football is over but I love chatting on this forum once it does, excited for 2025 season. Im expecting 8-4 ish and a solid year. A bowl to have back to back 9-4 seasons would be a great step forward for the program. Obviously hoping for more.

As a long suffering Gamecock I get nervous when expectations exceed the norm. However if we get to 9 wins I will be more than happy.

I get overly excited this time of year, usually to be let down. Seems we have some national buzz this year, though, for what it's worth! Can Beamer live up to it and keep us on track? That Geoff Collins hire makes it look like he isn't sitting on his hands, hell of a resume!

Looking forward to the new season as always. I’ve never been one to have ‘expectations’ nor do I give a tinker’s darn what others think or snark about our program; I regard our guys as family. Arrogance (Spurrier with his alternating qb nonsense when we were ranked in top ten and lost out the rest of the season starting with Vanderbilt at home on armed forces day with my daughter at her first game) and treason (juice wells et al) are about all that get me upset. I played myself and I know what these guys go through; if I can see them fighting I’m happy. Some of my favorite teams were not the ones that were particularly successful in the W column.

10-28 record as head coach at GT. My GT buddy was laughing when he told me that Beamer was about to hire him. I hope we're not paying him much.

8-4 would be a very good season for us historically. It would feel pretty disappointing after 9-3 last year and all the preseason hype this year, mostly focused on Sellers.

Geoff Collins is a disturbing hire to me. Collins was a total clown and failure at GT. His teams were poorly prepared, in poor physical condition and he was a creepy dude in interviews.

Hopefully it's not a ''favor'' to a friend. SB has no time or capital to waste.

What my GT friend sent me when news of the hire broke. I'm unsure of the message.

Coming from a GT guy, that is even more disturbing.

A friend of mine's daughter played tennis on scholarship at GT while Geoff was coach there. She was around the athletic offices a good bit and said Geoff was a weird guy and no one really liked him, even his staff. He would make asst. coaches go get his car and drive it around to the front of the office building and wait for him to come out when he was ready to leave the office.

Found out Collins printed these up and distributed them because he called third down the "money down". This was supposed to inspire the defense on third down. My buddy said it didn't work.

LOL; a three dollar bill originating in/near midtown Atlanta and made possible by Georgia Tech. Sometimes the jokes write themselves.

Some coaches aren't HC material but are very good position coaches/strategists

Well, it's an off the field position and he's gonna be doing the weekly look ahead for game planning for the next game through the season. White wanted him on staff along with Beamer. Let's see if the results are positive or not.

What's the salary for an ''off field position''?
I'll take a ''remote'' job previewing the next week's game and I'll do it cheap. :)

NO! He coached at GT, he sucks! IMO, the guy that has GT on the rise is doing it with GC's players!

Isn't this a pretty common occurrence?

Head coach gets canned, spends a year or two "consulting" in an off the filed position, then goes on to coach again somewhere else?

Actually, the current coach at GT had to do a total roster overhaul through the portal and he recruited pretty well the past two years. Geoff was a disaster in every respect. The GT fans I know hate him worse than Carolina fans hate Fat Brad.

Didn't follow them closely at all. But wasn't Geoff the guy that followed the triple option coach? If so, he was left with a serious deficiency of talent.

Maybe he still sucked, but I wouldnt have wanted to be the coach that tried to rebuild from that.

Yes, he followed the triple option coach but he didn't inherit a totally empty roster. The GT defense was pretty good when he got there and they regressed to the point of comedic ineptitude. He had some talented players on offense but they were pitiful under him. On top of his pitiful coaching, he was very cringe worthy in things he did. For instance, he had the trainers bring free weights onto the sidelines and had players lifting weights in front of the crowd during the pregame warmups. He also had players who weren't going to play in a game act as cheerleaders, facing the crowd and twirling towels over their heads. He decided to adopt Waffle House as some sort of branding thing for GT and pushed using "The 404" ( a reference to Atlanta's area code) as some sort of cool PR for GT.

He is a weird dude and I wouldn't want him anywhere around my football program.

Things that'll happen when you learn under McElwain. 😂 Lets hope he doesn't have input on things like that here. His defenses have had some really good success in this league.

All of this may be true, but where he was then ego-wise, doesn't mean he has to be there now. Most people that have done anything significant go through a period where they are tripping as far as their ego is concerned. I look at it a little different. If the guy navigated to get a HC job at a P4 program, then he should be able to handle being in an analyst position. Been a DC in the SEC and ACC. So, the guy's been around the block. It's not like the guy has any final say so on anything.
