I know that football is a TEAM sport, and as we've heard so many times, there is no I in team. We have seen this team come together, better coaching, better fundamentals, etc.
All of us have opinions about what was the most important thing to turn this team around after the USM loss. I would like to hear other posters opinion, and what they think was the ONE big difference, whether it was coaching, special team play, RB's, defensive backs, etc.
The one thing I think was the most important, and I know there are different opinions, was the play of the offensive line. The first couple of games, we had to many three and out. This did not allow the defensive line to "catch their breath", before they were back on the field. Now, we have holes big enough for the RB's to pick up yards, and get first downs. I'm not going to go into individuals, because we all know them, and it is a TEAM sport.
Please let me know what you think is the number ONE thing. Please don't include Coach Stoops taking over the defense calls. Keep it about the players.
Thanks, Willievic

Tough one. I'll say Benny Snell's blue collar work ethic as a RB. It's been contagious for the rest of the team, and arguably has made Boom better by pushing Boom to be the best version of himself.

I still have to say that Stoops being more hands on, with his intensity, has influenced the rest of the staff and players in being more focused. Being removed lowered the focus and the intensity level, where execution and concentration were hampered! More of the Saban approach to it!!

Too many factors to pick just one.

Stoops taking a more active role in the defense.
Gran and Hinshaw getting comfortable.
Honestly I think the drama earlier in the season (the rumor) helped the team.
I think a lot of us forget how young this team is. Yes it's a very physical sport but there is also some psychology involved. They have a confidence and will to win that I haven't seen at UK in a long time. I credit that to the coachs and their personalities.

Whatever happened i hope continues because it sure is nice seeing the Cats win football games that they would have lost in the past.

We started playing to our strengths that were there all along and not trying to play around the QB. With that said, Johnson may not have the talent of Barker, but he has the presence and calmness of a leader that I hadn't seen from Barker.

I honestly think the one biggest factor is tied between two (LOL).

One, the offensive line. I've watched UK football for over 35 years. Sat in the stadium as a pre-schooler watching games. I've never seen a UK OL manhandle DL's like this one has. They're physical. They're relentless. They seem to play with an attitude.

Two, the front seven. The young LB's must have had a light come on. The DL is playing well. UK's defense was outstanding yesterday. They were outstanding against SC, Vandy, and very good against State.

GBB!!!

As one poster said too many things to narrow it down to one. OL, DL, linebackers, Stoops taking over D, consistent not grea, play from QB, maturity, they trust each other more, on the field, stay in their gaps etc. I don't know I hope it continues

i have been expecting a huge improvement in our OL for quite a while now------looks like it is finally here.

And the improvement should continue next year, we lose one true star but already have a very good replacement and a redshirt four star for his position, and Leavitt wasn't just a four star but a 5.9 four star and now he has had a year to adjust, maybe AA could play his true position full time, in any case a lot more depth.

Man, you would hope that Wills would like to play with this group.

if I can only name one thing then no doubt in my mind it's the emergence of Snell as a big time SEC power back. I don't think the coaches even realized what they had with him when the season opened. Benny helps the entire look of the team, defense stays off the field, O line sees they can be successful, WR get less pressure and QB doesn't have as much pressure on him to put it in the air. Even Boom gets breaks he normally might not. This one freshman has to get a lot of credit for our success!

The emergence of the play of Snell and the O-Line has spread through each phase of the team.
Guys are playing with some confidence now. Makes a big difference.

The biggest change of the turn around is coaching.
Have to give them credit, good job Stoops and staff.
