Anyway that tries to claim that he played with effort last night is an idiot. Maybe it's a relative value as he played with some effort "for him" but it's still so far off from typical college basketball effort it's ridiculous.<div>
</div><div>Don't confuse making an attempt to block a shot or score with the ball in your hands as "effort". Sidney rarely fights for position in the post on defense or moves his feet to play helpside defense. Nor does he really crash the boards most of the time. Against a team we were supposed to dominate on the boards, they out-rebounded us by 8 and had 6 more offensive boards - the biggest being the one that Sid got his 5th foul and technical on. A little block out as it's a non-issue.</div><div>
</div><div>Sid had 3 total rebounds for the game...one of which I remember was his lone offensive rebound where i think Bryant missed a shot, Sidney's defender left him and he didn't even leave his feet for the rebound and putback. In his small defense W. Lewis only had 3 boards as well in roughly the same amount of time, but the talent gap between those 2 is huge.</div><div>
</div><div>Simply put, Sid is easily the most talented big man to ever set foot in HumphreyColiseum - probably is that he's also among the laziest. In his 3rd year in a college program we should be able to get 25 high quality minutes out of him and we struggle to get 20. He's usually gassed for at least 6 of those.</div><div>
</div><div>OTHER QUICK THOUGHTS ON THE GAME:</div><div>
</div><div>* We played well last night - Baylor always looked like they had more spring in their step and hustled more and maybe why that's in the end they squeaked it out, but other than the poor last 2 min, we had nothing to hang our heads about. Baylor is a very, very good team and I'd be shocked if they aren't in the Elite 8.</div><div>
</div><div>* Maybe it was just an off-night, but I thought Moultrie was exposed a little bit for the limitations in his game. Maybe he was pressing with all the scouts in attendance, but one of his least effective games overall last night. Hustle was there as always, but he struggled in a lot of other areas.</div><div>
</div><div>* At the end after Bost got burnt they talked about him being a good ball defender. While he's not terrible, I've never seen him as a great on-the-ball defender. He's great in transition defense and helpside, but quick guards have given him problems pretty much his entire career and guys determined to get into the lane do so against him with a fair amount of success. </div><div>
</div><div>* On the last play Lewis should have played well off Acy to give support to any dribble drives but nice set by their coach to pull lewis out of the lane and open it up for the final score.</div><div>

I'm personally weary of hearing people say what he could do IF he played with effort and heart and whatever. Well for whatever reason he's not going to do that so we have what we have with him. The biggest issue to me last night was that we didn't get the normal offensive production that we need from Moultrie to win big games and we got almost nothing out of Lewis offensively or defensively. Those 2 factors to me were much bigger in deciding that game last night than what Sidney did or didn't do (minus the 5th foul and technical incident).

I think the thing with Sidney is we've all learned to lower our expectations for him. I think he is playing with effort, for him. For whatever reason, he's just not capable of giving the same effort other players can. I've accepted the fact that he's nothing more than a role player for us and that's probably all he'll ever be. But as long as he gives a reasonable effort in those 20 minutes, he's a damj good role player andI'm going to quit bitching about what he could have, or should have, been. I think the best use of him is to get him about 20 minutes per game and never give him more than 3-4 in any one stretch. Any more than that and he's a foul waiting to happen.

Yep - Wendell was responsible for the inbounds dunk by Acy as well as he jumped out to give help on the shooter. Wendell has gotten better and is a serviceable big off the bench but he's really limited offensively and still gets lost on defense. I've given up on him getting much better there - he just doesn't have good natural instincts there.

Agree with you too Pat - Sid is what he is at this point and I just hope he stays in school b/c he has no shot of getting drafted at this point unless some team really thinks "they can get through to him". Assuming no foul troubles here's how I'd rotate him if I were Stans:

* Start Game/Half

* Sub at 14 min mark - here he'll have played 4 hard minutes, gotten a TV timeout and then 2 more min (6 total minutes)
* Re-insert at 6 min mark - here'll have to play for 2 min -get a TV timeout and then 4 minutes (12 total)

So that's 24 min per game, 12 per half, with no stretch longer than 6 min of game time - and you know they'll be foul shots, coach timeouts, etc.

If he can't make it through that, then nothing will help him.

I get his talent. I get trying to hep a kid out, but at this point his mediocre performance is not worth everything that is being invested in him and the distractions he causes. It's time for him to get in or get out.

If you break down each half into 5 segments broken up by the 16, 12, 8 & 4 minute time outs, he should play the 1st, 3rd and 5th segement each half. If there was a stoppage in play in the last minute of a segment, I'd probably go ahead and get him out then.</p>

His attitude looks to be OK and he appears to be at least trying when he is on the floor. I called him a wasted scholarship before the season started, but based on what I've seen so far this season, I think he's a good and important role player for us. We'd definitely be a worse team without him.

at least while he was out there last night he contributed offensively and got a few rebounds and I knew he was out there. Wendell Lewis played as many minutes and basically contributed little to nothing.

With the number of projected 1st round picks down low and plethora of 6'10/11" guys, how do you figure we were the better team by a longshot?

but hasn't he been back to Texas at least twice this year? If he's misbehaving enough to get sent back to fat boy drug camp, think of all the minor behavioral things they are letting go.

I'm really not trying to hate on him, but thing about it from the perspective of the other players. Think of the guys we have sent out that were contributing that don't get the treatment and attention Sid gets.
