Exactly and say we made that hire and he were to leave for LSU or Trxas etc... Yeah that woukd be fine cause we woukd be in a postion now showing other coachs 1 you can win at Kentucky and 2 tgey just dumped millions and millions into their football program. I say it woukd if been win, win. I think we coukd of had a,serious shot at Someone like Herman etc.. He coukd of been lined up to come here intil OSU job opened uo when Mye5was ready to hang it up at OSU. Plus we woukdnt drop a beat in re ruiting ohio hell it woukd probably get better and competei g for even better players against OSU. The point I am making is Petrino shoukd of been the hire even if he was to leave after this year we woukd of been set.
Hiring Petrino would not have been a gurantee we would be where Louisville is. Lets be honest about the situation Stoops took over compared to what booby dickweed inherited at Louisville. Strong left behind a winning culture and great players. Stoops inherited 30 players he cut basically and one of those 30 went on to a division 1 team and thats Legree. You cannot compare the two situations. Not to mention the schedule UK plays is generally tougher. I do not know the right answer but if Stoops wins 5 or 6 i do not see the point in a change. With the youth we have returning they are better off being in the same systems for another year than having to start over from scratch.

Well Lamar woukd win us 5 games on his own IMO. an just a hunch the 3rd best coach in football right now would be doing way better then Stoops year 4 IMO. I mean If Stoops battles back get us to a bowl some way hey I'll tip my hat to him and say hey next season lets get it together and compete for the east. If he has a bad season next year he has to go or he loses to Vandy no one will be able to convince me he shoukd remain headcoach. Hey I want the cats to win but Im ready for an SEC EAST contender. Kentucky football fans deserve it. If he cant do it soon its time for someone else to get a shot. A legit headcoach not a OC or DC.

I think everyone can agree that we have improved each year Stoops has been here. Maybe not in total games won, but nevertheless, we HAVE improved each year. I definately believe he can stay until we don"t improve. We can improve in a year and not get one more win from last year. As long as there is improvement let him stay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I know this is a spoof but the sad news is, it is not even a good one.

IMO. The only scenario that has CMS leaving is if the team totally quits and that would probably have to manifest itself in not only losses to misouri, candy AND MSU but APSU . Short of that, he would be be required by the powers at UK to at least make significant personnel changes,in order to keep his job. I don't necessarily like this scenario but believe it to be the reality.

Going to a bowl this year, although another 5-7 year may save his job because of Barker's injury as a life-jacket.

I guess if Stoops wins 5 that he should get another year, but honestly, if we win 5 again, I'm going to really let go of the rope when it comes to UK football...

Stoops may very well get us to a point of decency at some point, but he's not ever going to make us truly competitive in the SEC.

The right coach could do for us what Franklin did for Vandy but I'm sure that winning coaches and the "edge" that they possess, probably turns Barnhardt off.

Franklin inherited a team loaded with redshirted upper class men. Now, at Penn State, he hasn't had that luxury nor the results.

However, I do agree with you in the rest of your post.

Yeah, I've thought of that, but I think that Penn St just may not be a good fit for him.

He DID have some studs on those Vandy teams!!

I understand alot about football and understand Lamar has the most explosive talent I have ever seen in a long time. I know he has accounted for 28 or so TD'S through 5 games. If you think we wouldn't be a better team under Petrino and Lamar you do not know or understand football at all. Its down right silly really.

No magic number, just keep playing like they played the last two weeks and keep recruiting like they have and the wins will come.

But yes the DC position must be addressed in the off season.
If we play as well, as many posters think we are currently playing; then six wins should be there.
Anything short of that should be considered a failure by them.
But excuses will abound, followed by thats just life at UK football. He is a nice guy, he deserves another year.

Most of the long time fans understand where you are coming from, but in real life we have been trying to find that guy for 60 years.Stoops has made blunders to be sure but he has gone form 2-10 the first year to 5-7 in the last two,he will be hard pressed to get to 5-7 this season but he might.

Many have been critical of Stoops in several areas and to an extent deservedly so but he has done no worse than several who came before him and in some areas he is better.

All of us who have been fans for a long time are tired of losing but some of us are willing to admit that we have to get back to where we were in the last few Brooks' years before we can build anything more.

Depending on how the rest of this season plays out I would prefer to see what Stoops does next year rather than start over again. If he goes 3-9 then that is a whole other matter.

We are who we are and we started from where we were after the Joker years, there is no quick fix for that situation.
Very good post Doc., Couldn't have said it any better. My view on this is Kentucky is in a unique position like no other SEC team. Most fans are into it during football season, but has had the basketball season to fall back on and quickly forget the football woes.

Mark Stoops has to have the hardest job in football, You can recruit in the top 10 and still rank 15th in the SEC. You can recruit a top class according to the experts and lose most of them before they reach their senior year for various reasons.

In my opinion there is no magic number of wins that can determine whether he should be retained. or let go. Most all fans should be able to weigh the schedule, scores of the games, injuries and how competitive they are and make that decision based on reasonable facts, not just some number that floats by.

Kentucky is a traditional basketball school playing in a traditional Football conference, no way around that. If we continue to play in the SEC which I agree you are just going to have to give the coaching staff time to do their job and I'm not sure if they ever can because the playing field is not level. I'm just saying there is no magical number of years. Every team and school is different but I haven't give up trying to support the players and coaches.Go Cats!!!!!

I agree with everything except How can you be in the top 10 nationally in recruiting and rank 15th in the 14 team sec?

It's bowl or bust for me, if Stoops doesn't get to 6 wins then he needs to be shown the door along with Mitch.

While I hate the idea of "must win" games, I believe the narrative that this team is improving demands a win tomorrow. If UK loses, I think it will be hard for Stoops to retain his job. Improvement is the key. And improvement probably ends with a home win over Vandy.
