What worries me about the Mizzou game....

not our offense being able tomove the ball, and put up points, it is our defense being able to contain the spread, up-tempo style that the Tigers employ.
We have made great improvement since Stoops has taken over the play calling on D, but I saw a little regression last week against MSU. We got gashed on some runs, both by Fitzgerald and the Dogs tailbacks. While the pass coverage was decent, State only had one real threat ( Ross ).
Here's hoping that we can have a Time of possession of about 34-35 minutes, and keep the Tiger O off the field en route to another Cat win !

It's a concern. Like to see us put an emphasis on reading the QB at least 60/40 on the read option. In other words lean towards attacking him and dictate to him what we'd rather him do. The indecision is what makes the read option successful especially when you have a good athlete back there that just needs a step to get loose. I like to key on the QB then at least you're limiting him somewhat, giving up the inside instead of the corners, and getting hits (hopefully) on him that take their toll.

Rather do that than the other way around.

I think the regression last week in stopping the run was due to Fitzgerald being a mobile QB. Lock isn't the same type of QB, can run if he HAS to, but is more of a pocket passer. I think we clamp down the running game and the DB's live up to the hype this week.

Playing at noon is what I am curious about , will we be flat or not . Teams don't always handle early starts so well , could impact Missouri.

Yes, I believe our D-backs will have to play a lot of straight up man coverage, Lock isn't a super threat to run, but if we don't get some pressure on him he could cause us a lot of problems passing.

They're going to get their yards, UK just needs to shorten the game by running the ball to keep their O on the bench, and when they have the ball make them settle for field goals.

This is a great situation for Kentucky to take another major step forward with this program. We have the better team, they just need to go in there with confidence and play a clean passionate game. People in the know are starting to mention Kentucky as possibly winning the EAST, it's time to prove them right, and play like a Division champion, not a struggling underdog praying for an upset.

His Int rate vs OOC is much different than in conference games. I do agree with you though, I just think he can be baited into some throws to the good guys. :)

and we had only allowed 285 yards before that last drive.

What worries me is whether Steven Johnson can handle road pressure. If U.K. Down put up pts it's gonna be a long game

The winner of this game will have to score 35 points. I hope it's us. Don't think either Defense will be able to stop the other.

What kills us is a mobile qb. Missouri doesn't have one. Our defense has actually done great against the run and decent against the pass. The high speed offense could be an issue just due to wearing down the defense.

The best way to do that is to keep the ball on the ground, and keep their offense off the field...

I think our offense should score more than enough. Missouri is basically using their second string defense and UK has a strong running game. If they have zero turnovers and no more than a couple three and outs they should be fine. The defense will need to turn Missouri over and decrease their possession count. Also stamina will be crucial against a high tempo offense.

What worries me about Mizzou is the "respect" they are getting (i.e., 5 point betting fav, higher ranked in various power poll) as a 2-5 team that lost 2, maybe 3, starters in a loss to MTSU last week. :confused:

They spread their Oline out more i would counter that and smash my 3 middle dlinemen as close together. Try to smash the front of pocket then have Ware Allen and a backer attack edges make the guards have to react more by three guys over powering center and the 2 huge gaps inbetween the guards and center. I dont know if anyone has thought of that kind of strategy against a,spreadout Oline but Elam wouldn't be the answer he gets no push. Just a scheme I thought about with the way Mizz Oline lines up. The are way further apart then a normal oline. I think that technique can be exposed with some imagination. You could even put a backer close to the line attack gaps with speed and keep Lock guessing all nigth what gaps ww will over power. Only thing on Run the backers would have to be alert. I dont know just thought on Mizz Oline.

For once I wish we'd get up and press their WRs. They struggle MIGHTILY with physical DBs and our guys are certainly big enough to do it.

A really strong opening quarter could propel us a long way. If we were able to force a 3 and out and then go on a sustained 6-7 minute drive resulting in a TD that could really set the tone. I think (could be dead wrong) that with the way Mizzou is down this year and with the recent rash of injuries they will fold like a tent if they get down a few scores and UK is playing physical ball.

Between our offensive line, running backs, and their poor rushing defense... We should be able to run all over them. That'll let us control the clock and keep our defense of the field.

Unless Boom busts off all day. Then let's just outscore them.

But we should have little problem running the ball.

You think missouri will have good attendance after their loss last week...granted their attendance last week was still better than commonwealths, I don't see many coming out this week. I think he'll be fine tho, he has played in Bryant-Denny, he's not going to face any players on a field better than that.

11am kickoff, following a devastating home loss on homecoming.

Combine that with our ability to run the ball and their inability to stop the run.

We could and should totally take the crowd out of the game. if things go well, many of their fans may be heading for home by halftime

At least it is sure to confuse some of our fans! I guarantee that as soon as we start shifting around on the fly to adjust to the up-tempo offense, some posters in the game thread will complain that we are confused and "poorly coached."
