Kinda long.

Let me preface this by saying I am no expert when it comes to formations and play calling.

With the problems of protecting the QB and Johnson's trouble holding onto the ball, we need to run nothing but short to medium distance throws. Unless we actually are able to give him some protection. During practice, tell Johnson to count to 3 and either throw it or run out of the pocket. Have someone blow a whistle to remind him to throw or run. He has to get that internal clock running right and realize he isn't playing behind a great line and he will get pressured.

Move Snell up to number 1 on the depth chart. Have him punish the other team early and then hit them with our smaller quicker backs (Boom and Kemp) as the defense gets tired. There is no reason to barely play Snell when he is probably our most effective back for running up the middle. Maybe put in Snell and Boom together a lot and either pitch it to Boom or hand it off to Snell.

The defense is getting killed against the run. Put 7 or 8 defenders in the box and force them to beat us with the pass. I'd rather give up a long pass on occasion over getting the crap beat out of us with the run. There aren't that many elite quarterbacks we will go up against (although we make them look like it at times), but there seems to be a ton of good backs.

Also stop playing off the receivers like 10 yards. There is almost always someone wide open on 3rd and long. Stay in man to man and don't zone very often. We always seem to have someone get lost on who they are supposed to guard and it results in a big play.

We need to blitz, blitz, and do even more blitzing. We have to get pressure on their quarterback. With 7 or 8 in the box, there's no reason we shouldn't get some pressure on them. It is ridiculous when they have like 5 or more seconds in the pocket to look for an open receiver. You can only guard a wide receiver for so long before someone gets open.

Substitute as much as we can. We have to keep our players as fresh as possible. I know Coach Stoops hates it, but I think we need to run uptempo and try and wear the other team down. Don't give them time to adjust or substitute. Uptempo offenses always seem to give defenses trouble and score more points. We won't win very often trying to play ball control.

Like I said, I'm no expert but I think these things could be beneficial to improving the team.

I like some of what you say but if we go up tempo we wear out our already thin troops probably before the other team gets tired.

I like the load the box and come after them idea particularly in the Vandy game.Key on Webb and make the QB beat us ,just don't let Webb do it

I can agree with many, (most), of these strategies and believe the OC should incorporate them in his game planning!!!! I will also say that for the most part I am one of Grans' biggest supporters!!!

O line that can block. D line that shed blocks and tackle. Everything else falls into place after that.

More effort and organization. Those are what we've been lacking for a couple of years. I've seen it now 2 games in a row.

Win three SEC games, finish 4th in SEC East, that will at least be a bit of progress. I have given up on 6 wins (not that is a great season or anything)

I have watched UK play 3 games and while Snell is a great runner, he is the worst blocker of your 3 best rbs and doesn't seem to pick up the coverage quickly. If you start him, you will have to run because his lack of blocking could get your QB hit often. Once teams know you won't or can't throw with him in the game, they will load the box on you making it harder for him to run and also put more pressure on your QB due to the weakness at tackle. Loading the box works on teams who primarily run the ball but does leave you open to hit the slant route over the linebackers and in front of your safety. This can lead to big gains depending on the speed and tackling ability of your DBs plus with a mobile QB, once he breaks the line, there isn't a lot back there to stop more long gains.

1. Love to see 6 wins...but I don't think this team can sweep Mizzou, Miss St and Vandy.
2. We need to develop a QB...need to see Johnson read blitz better and not hold the ball for sacks so often. Need to see WR more involved...since NMSU and So Miss games...our Wr are basically getting less than 100 yards receiving as a unit.
3. Need offensive tackles to develop on pass blocking...they are still really bad on edge rushers
4. Want to see a 4-3 scheme and scrap the 3-4 mess. (less Elam)

All in all, Stoops should be able to get the defense straightened out. FSU defense gets worse every year removed from Stoops. So I truly believe he knows defense...hopefully he'll focus on it and remove Elliot as season end.

Not surprising that Snell can't block, he's a true fr and they seldom have been asked to block. I look for teams to put 8 in the box and make Johnson beat them, not sure he can do that.

I want to see more physicality, focus and consistency. Stop beating yourself with unforced mistakes.

I want to see personal fouls for late hits or something aggressive from the either offense or defense sides

Win 6+ games. That would be a much easier task without the previous Southern Miss chokejob.
