The quality of our 1A football players are way too often overlooked. Interested to hear where the 1A student/athletes from across our state are signing to play.

Congratulations to these young men but with that many signees and more to come in 1A they should have more to show than a couple of conference championships.

So there was one other Tarboro signing that I wasn’t aware of. Hunter Medford signed with Barton. I live in Wilson and I’m just now learning that Barton will be playing Division II football in 2020. Good for him and I hope they fair well.

Marcus Graham from MICS (former East Lincoln standout) is heading to Stanford.
Yes formerly from East Lincoln but had zero offers before arriving to MICS.... Offers starting pouring in after MICS starting playing him at WR. Showing off his skill set so schools could see his versatility. Due to the fact he was an undersized QB. Great coaching move by MICS staff, then wow here comes Stanford...

Congrats to the MICS coaching staff for making such a bold and un ordinary move. Kudos to them. But seriously, Washington and his staff do a great job of getting local kids exposure. They help a lot of other local kids that are not in their program which I can appreciate. I know this is a 1A thread but another East Lincoln guy who is at Hough signed with NC State.

You right, but again that kid had ZERO OFFERS also while attending East Lincoln....
Shout out to Hough staff for getting that kid the exposure needed to make it to NC state....

Wasn't he a sophomore at East?

Cant wait to watch Robbinsville, Swain, or Murphy send MIC all stars home early.
He was a heck of a player at East. Had an offer from Air Force before leaving I believe. They had him and Jalen Frazier who is at Hough and signed with State. They beat Pisgah without those guys this year, with them they would have been in the running. Anyways, congrats to those guys.

He received his 1st offer end of jr. At MICS October 26th 2017..... East Lincoln did absolutely nothing for his recruiting...
Like I said MICS put the kid in great position now he's headed to Stanford. Fact checker

We will watch your all stars on saturday with our Rings on.
How good at coaching do you gotta be to have all these Saturday kids but cant get outta your own way on friday. Let that sink in.

None of those allstars had a Saturday opportunity until those coaches got in there own way on Friday. I bet a lot of athletes would love for their coaches to get in their own way on Friday if they had a chance to play on Saturdays. I hope those rings can pay for tuition or help get a raise at Hardees. Let that sink in

One would think that Tarboro would get a lot more kids signing D1 scholarships given the success of the program. Sadly, they do not. The schemes Tarboro runs are quite unconventional in comparison to what most major college programs run. Todd Gurley is a freakishly great athlete whose talent could not be ignored. Tyquan Lewis, same. A lot of very good athletes at Tarboro are criminally underrecruited by D1 programs simply because you don't get enough snaps in a system college recruiters recognize. Prime example is our fellow Coastal Plain conference member, Riverside. They play a spread offense with more modern techniques and Tarboro runs them off the field with our ancient offense and freakish defense. Recruiters see lots of tape of Riverside athletes in schemes they recognize and it makes a difference. Tarboro has athletes all over the place, but recruiters don't see enough touches in a system they think would translate to their program and they move on. RaptorRun makes a valid point, but can you blame Coach Craddock though for sticking with what works at this level? He tried early in this tenure to switch to a modern scheme that would have been more recruiter friendly and he nearly got run out of town for losing. Since we are letting things marinade, lets add that to the mix.

Imo system has very little to do with recruiting. If you're an athlete and can play they will find you. However, I think it's more important that kids attend combines and camps so that coaches can evaluate their athleticism and abilities.

A lot of these camps are used to evaluate players the school is already actively recruiting. These coaches probably receive 100 highlight videos a day and as a recruiter, you don't have time to give ever video a fair look. You have to condense the nonsense some. Sure talent plays into it, but there is a lot more raw talent available at the 3A and 4A levels. The small school recruit has to work so much harder to get noticed and a lot of it has to do with the relationships the HS school coach has with the college as to how serious a look a kid will get. Its relationships. It's compatibility. It's talent. It's tenacity. It's keeping your grades up. There are a lot of balls in the air for a recruit. In a program like Tarboro, these players play football the same way from Lil Vikes to Varsity. When you have a kid that has played the same system for 10 years, how do you take a flyer on that kid assuming you can teach them to do things differently when there is another guy available that already knows how your system works. You can't tell me that doesn't play a part in how some schools can produce D1 talent and never get to a state championship.

We had a kid off that 2011 team that had zero offers, nobody knew who he was, but ended up getting an offer from Hampton after going to camp. Not saying system doesn't factor in but generally if you're a player and coaches think your skill set will translate then they will offer. I'm with you, Tarboro should have a lot more playing in college whether it be D1,2,3. In today's game with all the exposure opportunities that are available it's something to take advantage of. Wish camps and combines were in abundance when I played.

Its hard to build a state champion when you pull in kids from everywhere and those kids haven't came in playing together. Teams that have won several state championships like Murphy, Swain, Rville, Tarboro, WRH, Elkin, Ablemarle, Tville, etc. had the groundwork laid when those kids that won the state titles got to high school.

Can someone like MIC or TJCA win a state title in football? Sure. Will they be a constant threat to maintain powerhouse football programs year in and year out? I don't think so. I would even go as far as comparing teams like MIC football as the equivalent of a travel basketball team.

MIC is also pulling from a different demographic than the mountain schools. You're always going to have more kids from a metro area go on to play college sports over kids from the middle of nowhere. It's just a different type of athlete.

That comment was not directed toward a mountain team.
