Last year made me stop bringing it up. This year makes me wonder. Having followed his career, a QB like Sellers would THRIVE in his system. Liberty had lots of injuries and fell off this year. But I wonder where we would be. I dont know if we have the big year in 2022. Maybe too early. Or maybe not. But I definitely dont think we are as bad in year 5. This is 2015 bad.

No they arent. Hes had 3 8-win seasons, 1 13-win season with a Fiesta Bowl (more prestigious than any bowl in our history). And this year yes, injuries havw wreckes em and they’re 4-5, bad season
Look at their trajectory since he's been there. Won big with Freeze's leftovers in year 1. Won 5 less games in year 2. Horrible & a losing record this year. He's worse every year. SEC job would be "Beamerish" with him. He's not SEC caliber.

Which is why almost every SEC job has come open in recent years and he wasn't considered for any of them.

There's absolutely no predicting where we would be if we'd hired Chadwell. It's mostly a crapshoot. There are many quality coaches who can win at one place (sometimes more than one place) who fail to get it done when they move up a level. There's no reliable way to know until you hire them.

It is funny to look at the list of names that were debated at that time. Granted, I think Shane was decided on and neither of these other two were really considered. But they were debated on the board.

Napier has been let go, a failure at Florida. (Come to think of it, that probably means he'll be our next hire)

Chadwell continued to have good years till this poor year. Certainly adds questions about him, but hes still got a chance to succeed.

And Beamer. We all know how that is.

Its just funny how all 3 of our "choices" have struggled.

We haven't hired and up-and-coming coach with HC experience since Sparky Woods. It didn't go well, but at least he had experience. Fat Brad was an OC, Holtz, Spurrier, then Muschamp (a retread, fired coach), and now Beamer, a guy with zero high-level coaching experience at the P4 level.

We have reaped the benefits of not hiring a WINNING head coach, and the winning ones were in the twilight of their careers, not up-and-comers. Maybe we should try something new.

Donati could get Sonny Dykes. He would be an upgrade.

I love how some emphasize one mediocre season and brush off the fact that he has won 10 or more games in one season at four different schools. (NOTE: how are we doing this season?).

It does not have to be Chadwell. But his background is what we should have aimed for when looking to replace a failed Head Coach at two different schools.. Rather than that, we went out to the extreme and rolled the dice a 2nd consecutive time by hiring a position coach (copying what Arkansas did the previous year in hiring Sam Pittman). No, we did not go to the high school ranks to hire a college Head Coach in one of the very toughest sports leagues in the nation. But, we came pretty damn close.

Your "note" is what always amused me. We are looking at our second losing season in 3 years. But if a candidate had a 6 or 7 win year, it was "terrible", and eliminated him.

Granted, I'm remembering some of the more simpleton trolls that used to argue that.

An upgrade over Shame Beamer, sure, but not a good hire. Dykes would max out with 7-5 seasons here & would have plenty of losing seasons. PLUS.......the man just resembles Fat Bradstard way too much. They could pass for brothers.

In all fairness, NIL + portal has skewed a lot of this in a way we cannot tell for now.
The days of building a program through solid recruiting are gone.
What's the difference for Chadwell @ Liberty v. his previous stops?
What kind of players does he have v. his earlier stops?
If he has any good players, are they bolting for NIL $$?

Keep an eye on 42 year-old Jake Dickert @Wake Forest. I admit his overall record (30-23) is not eyepopping. But he led Washington State to an 8-4 record (his best) in his last and 4th season there. In his first season at Wake Forest, he is 7-3. They should be 8-2 if not for a blown call by the refs in the Georgia Tech game (Tech is on the verge of making the college football playoffs). Remember the name. You heard it here first.

That 42-7 blowout by Florida State turns me off of him.

I only know of one instance where I was watching a game and they mentioned the P4 starting qb was a transfer feom Liberty last year.

So, thats one, fwiw.

He is trending very poorly, though, at Liberty. 13 wins with the previous coach's players, to 8 wins and this year 4 wins so far.
Injuries wrecked em. Look at his trajectory everywhere else hes been. I will say, with his system he needs a particular type of QB which he doesnt have this year. Sellers would have been perfect. That said, hes also at Liberty who probably shouldn’t be FBS, especially in the NIL/portal era. They have crazy strict student life rules. I think they thought they would be like another BYU but they belong in FCS.

He'll have to rebound strongly now in order to move up. It will probably require something stellar next year.

The hire doesn’t matter because we will always be a bottom dweller in the SEC. Yeah there may be a year here and there that we win 8 or 9 but for the most part on average 6 and 6.
What on Gods green earth did Ray see in Beamer that convince him that he’s your guy? Just sad

I don't know much at all about Chadwell but I heard recently from insiders on another board stating the reason Chadwell hasn't gotten a big D1 job is because he's a poor interviewer. That was all that was stated true or not.

That is a GREAT question. What did Ray see?

No coordinator position, no HC experience, 20 years as a position coach.

Was it a good interview? That would be one helluva interview.

Was it simply as shallow and as sad as Ray thinking "hey, it worked for Clemson, let's give it a shot".

If we’re going to go down the road of speculation…then bump Chadwell, should have hired Kiffin.

At the time Chadwell looked to be the best option and it wasn’t even close. But in a perfect world Muschamp is fired after 2019 and Kiffin would have been hired.

And most fans would have hated that idea and that’s stupid. In fact if you would have rather hired Beamer over Kiffin never comment on football again, thanks. As of Saturday he’s now had his 4th 10 win season at Ole Miss. They are a similar program to SC, he could have done that here. And I don’t think he’ll go anywhere despite all the speculation. Could have been the Gamecock’s.

Must have thought he’d be a great bench coach in the dugout.

At least Chadwell paid his dues at Charleston Southern and maybe even still at Liberty. Shane should have been coaching at Charleston Southern before becoming a D1 head coach. But his last name is Beamer.

This brings back memories. Forgive me for the trip down memory lane, but this exact scenario was argued at the time.

Several posters, with one very particularly moronic troll at the head, argued vehemently that Kiffin was a failure and would be a terrible hire.

Corral? I think was the qb at the time? Any success Kiffin had at Ole Miss was just because he got lucky and inherited Corral. Once that guy was gone, the program would fall apart.

I get a LOT of laughs thinking back to those debates, and thinking of that little moron.

When you see those kinds of mistakes like the TO before half, you have to wonder what kind of coach Shane could have been if he had a training job at Charleston Southern, or some such school.

Was his career ruined by bringing him up too soon?
