In my opinion I would much rather have Rayburn over Mugharbil.
I'd rather have both lol.

Mugharbil is just scratching the surface of what he can be, last year was his second year playing. He will be that much better this year.

Rayburn is an awesome high school player but he doesn't have Mugharbil's ceiling.

Just saw on the Robbinsville Wrestling Facebook, the Williams boy won Ohio Tournament of Champions over the weekend. That tournament is a big draw and legit competition. That's a big time win. He keeps that up could be a big time D1 recruit in wrestling. Any updates from the Rville fans on his football status? Is he playing JV this year?

He'll need to move to reach his ceiling in wrestling. He won't face the week to week competition in North Carolina, especially as a 1A kid, to stay ahead of the elite kids in big time wrestling states.

I agree with that. It will be a tuff decision for the family. I was told both dad and mom grew up in Robbinsville. No matter the sport, facing the level of competition week in week out is big. Will this same situation affect the long term with Mugharbil? Football is different the wrestling but how often will he see a legit D1 D lineman and see the speed they have. Its exciting to see this play out.

He'll be fine, maybe his learning curve once he gets on a college campus will be a little longer than had he played metro area 4A ball or something but he's such a fluid athlete for a big kid it won't matter as long as he keeps working hard. He already has major offers, if he was under the radar as far as his recruitment it would be different.

It was a different era but Shawn Johnson transitioned just fine from Murphy to NC State as a o-lineman. He did redshirt though his first year on campus and maybe that's something that could be in the cards for Mugharbil.

I disagree about moving. As you can already see he’s dominating anywhere he goes. With all the exposure he’s getting now and through the summer, why should he move? He won’t have to attend a big fancy school to get noticed.

Agree to disagree then. Yes he's dominating at a national level now but as these kids move into high school and start getting more serious about their craft and start getting higher level training and coaching, that is when facing and competing against weak competition week in and week out is going to hurt him.

Murphy had a kid in middle school not that long ago that was an elite wrestler, probably not to the level of Williams but still a kid that was very high level even at a national level. I saw what being at a low high school level as far as competition and training did for his national prospects. He still went on to win a couple state titles and have college options for wrestling but he went from being a top level kid nationally to just a top level kid in this state. To be fair the kid that I'm talking about played other sports as well and that likely made it more difficult too because some of these elite kids in other states are going to specialize in wrestling once in high school.

You improve a lot more as an athlete being consistently challenged and forced to improve. Bulldozing over kids in 1A in a mediocre state for wrestling isn't going to get him better. The kids in the Midwest and Northeast are going to be getting top level coaching and facing high level opponents in high school weekly that will challenge them and improve them in a way that he won't have the opportunity to here.

I'm not saying he cant still be a top wrestler but these other high level kids that live in states that take wrestling seriously are going to catch up with him and some will move past him in high school, if he stays here. He can still be very good but he won't reach his ceiling here, that's just the reality of it.

Both of you guys are making great points and is basically the different in Wrestling and Football. Colleges look for different things in the 2 sports. Football is all about athleticism, size, speed, etc. What is done on the field comes after all these items as we can see with Mugharbil. He is getting recruited all over the place because of his athleticism, size, and potential. He’s only played football a couple years.

Wrestling on the other hand, a set of skills has to be developed and that comes with coaches, training partners, competition, etc. No doubt Williams has a better shot at Robbinsville instead of say Murphy just because they do have some on staff that wrestled in college and they take the sport more serious. If he is really dedicated he would have a shot to stay nationally ranked but it would be far more likely at a PA, OH, or NJ school that pumps out wrestling recruits every year.

Exactly. You said what I was trying to articulate, but in a lot less words. Lol

Nobody has anything for the Williams kid on the football field next year either. He is a beast on both sides of the ball.

How's the offseason treating the future stars of the conference? Any of the ones mentioned attend any big time camps? Mugharbil making any waves on the camp circuit?

Robbinsville posted on Facebook, Williams was ranked by Flow Wrestling #25 on their top 100 pound for pound list for Junior High. Their rankings are considered the very top for wrestling.
