At his point, I believe most of us know what we are bringing back from last year's teams. The question now is, who is going to be coming onto the scene next season and the year after? What's their strength? Why do you feel like they will be stars? I'll start off with the Knights. Two years down the road, but Kage Williams is going to be one of the toughest backs around. He was only a 7th grader on JV this season (yes, he IS a hold back), but at the age of 13 had a superb season. By the end of the year, the Knights were as good as anyone in the conference on the JV level (evident by the big-time win over Swain). He hits the whole hard, runs straight ahead, and punishes would be tacklers. His work ethic is beyond belief. The only thing standing in his way of being a premier player in our conference is the fact that he IS the biggest rising star in WNC as a wrestler. The kid is amazing. I foresee four straight State Championships for him as an individual, barring injury. He wrestles nationally and has had several prep school offers from up north. If he were my kid, I'm not sure he'd play football with his future on the mat. That being said, he will be a force to reckon with if he does play.

He was for sure the most productive 8th grade and under player in the conference. Bet he had close to 300 yards against swain that last game. They had no answer for him running the football. I saw him at the James Orr wrestling tournament this past weekend and he had to be close to 6 foot 180 pounds. Looked like a man instead of a middle school kid. If he still has some growing to do look out.

I liked the running back kid from hayesville too. Good speed and vision just not as big and strong as Williams.

Andrews has a big back too but just doesn’t have the speed like the other to. Honestly could see him on the line pulling and really causing some damage leading some plays downfield.

Seemed like Murphy and swain got most of their production from 9th graders in the games I watched so not sure about them but you now the stable is not empty.

I’ll start with Murphy, Rumfelt is a very fast and talented kid who will be very good by the time his junior year rolls around. Heard he’s very talented baseball player if that plays a roll in anything. Next up is wood, probably one of the fastest kid western Carolina has seen since Murphy’s Tyler Wiley. He’s around 6’0 and about 180 and straight muscle. Next up is Rathburn from murphy, kid is mean on the field , and a nice young man off the field. He’s what murphy needs at fullback and will be very helpful. From hayesville, not much football talent comes out of there but gillis ran very hard behind a very pitiful line last year in jvs. He’s a rising freshmen, hits the hole hard and is very hard to take down. Around 5’8 170. Andrews has that Martin boy, who will probably be a guard in the future but will be very good in that postion, 5’11 190. Rville has Kage Williams, that kid is pure talent but his wrestling future may play a role in his football career , he may not even stay in rville which will definitely hurt in the future. 5’10 180. Idk about cherokee. Swain has the stepp kid who put on a show against murphy on jvs even though it wasn’t enough to pull a win. He has decent size and hits hard.

Hayesville will still have the Big Freshman TE for 3 more years, the McClure boys for 2 more years, and after that they Have the Gillis Kid that will be a freshman next year, the big Lundsford kid that was JV QB before he Tore his ACL and a pretty well rounded now 7th graders no stars maybe other than the McClure kids little brother! Swain has the Stepp Kid and the Runningback for last years Midget team will be good not sure his name, Andrews the Martin boys,Murphy rumfelt, wood, and rathburn, Robbinsville Kage of course and the Orr kid from the Midgets looks promising, not really sure about cherokee or rosman

Looks like specialization could pop up with some of the mentioned athletes.. You have Rumfelt and the McCracken boy that have promising baseball careers and Williams in wrestling. Do they drop football and concentrate on developing skills for another sport? I know this has hurt 1a schools a lot in recent years. The days of playing 3 and 4 sports each year appear to be over.

Mugharbil from Murphy. The kid has the ability to be one of the best o-lineman to come through this conference in a long time if continues putting in the work, amazing where he's at already as a player with this past year being just his second year of playing the sport. Those years of soccer were great for his footwork.

And unlike a lot of the other great lineman to come through the league Yousef has the required size to play at the D1 level, and yes the talent too if works hard enough. Grades definitely won't be a problem for him.

I'm really looking forward to this season and what the younger guys can do now that they are the BIG DOGS. Im very excited about the new offensive line for 2019. I have heard from a few folks that 2019 line (could potentially) be better than 2018 and that has me very curious. I dont know the rising group as well as I have groups in the past. So if any of yall that know better than me have the time please fill me in on the rising O line. I do know that Mugharbil is a huge kid and did a great job this year especially with it being his second year of FB I believe. I definitely think he could be D1 talent by his senior year. Rayburn is another very talented rising junior. The kid is super strong and works as hard or harder than any kid anywhere. The thing I love about him the most is his motor. He refuses to loose on each play and gives 110 percent on each and every play. Stalcup also did a great job as a starting sophomore on the D line and should be very hard to deal with the next two years. I expect Murray, Dorsey and Rathburn to run the ball well this year. I think all three are very talented backs. Lots of starting spots open this year on both sides of the ball. Should be a very interesting and fun year.

Stalcup is a junior this year. He and Satterfield will be the senior leaders next season.

Speaking of seniors...I think there were 7 juniors on the roster this year and I've heard a couple arent playing next year so unless some other kids come out that will put us at 5-6 seniors. Gotta be one of the smallest senior classes we've had in a long time!

That's bad news, I hate to hear it. Younger guys will get plenty of experience then. That will be a big plus down the road though. I would rather see a sophomore or junior that wants to play get the opportunity anyway. I hope all the kids that didnt play this year come back out also. Some real talent setting in the stands.

5 of the 7 juniors are already starters and a 6th is highly likely to be a starter this coming season, so if any of them don't play it's a big deal.

There's usually 1 or 2 that come out or come back out for their senior year and start or really contribute though, like Beal, P Allen and Srabian did this past year. If 1 or 2 of those 6 juniors don't play then they're going to need that happen again this year.

If any of the kids you've heard that aren't going to play are skill players it's going to be real rough, especially if a couple of the sophomore skill kids that didn't play this year aren't going to play.

Hearing bad news for robbinsville, the Williams boy didn’t enter the conference tournament and is on a official visit to a private school in Maryland. My source is saying it’s a done deal.

I hate that, but really you can't blame him or his family. He's a sure-fire star. Has to take care of his future. Good luck to him

Thats just talk as of now. He said recently that he was going to break the all time pin record 93 and win record 153 at Robbinsville. Both set this year by Kade Millsaps.

He does have the skill set to break those records but if he keeps playing football I doubt it. You miss too many matches with football going into December most years for schools like Rville, Swain, or Murphy.

The ref that disqualified him use to be a coach at Cherokee i heard. Also going into the last match it was 36-30. All we needed was a pin to win. The same ref took a team point for us being to load. 36-29. That way we couldn't win. We also forfeited 6 points.
It seemed fishy to me. Oh well.

The DQ was a combination of penalty points. He had a headbutt, headgear pull, stall, and locking hands. Once you get the 4th penalty in a match, its a automatic DQ. Which I heard a couple of those cautions were a little shady but the last one was right on the locking hands with just a few seconds left in the match.

Oh and I think Mugharbil meets the criteria of future star. According to 247 he's the #1 OL in the state of NC in the class of 2021. And the 72nd ranked overall player in the entire country in the class of 2021.

Come on man, I think top 70 before he should be considered. Seriously, this is impressive for the young man. Good luck in his recruitment. HUGE, accomplishment just to be mentioned much less top 100.
