Stein would be fine. I'll be curious to see how he does n a tougher conference with worse players on offense. He can't be worse than Stoops though.

It’s not a guarantee but it’s our best shot.

Winning begets winning.

Silicon Valley…every billionaire and multi billion company can trace roots back to a handful of companies.

This is horse country. Who do you buy at the auction? Fole with great lineage.

Want a good looking girl , more importantly one that stays good looking what do you do? You scout the family tree. Mom, aunts, sisters…dna lineage

Winning begets winning.

These are laws of the universe.
I had rather have someone who has actually done something as a head coach. I'll be rooting for whoever our coach is but I do not find Stein or Hartline all that exciting or confidence inspiring at this point.

I’d be on board with Stein or Hartline.
Not excited about Mullin but would play along. Don’t want to see Brian Kelly here.
There are probably some potential candidates that I haven’t considered.

I’d be pretty excited about Stein or Hartline either one. Unless you’re one of the privileged couple of programs that can potentially hire a head coach who’s already made noise in a major conference, there’s no sure path to success, but they check all the boxes you’d want in finding a coordinator to give the opportunity to.

I’m less enthusiastic about the rest of what’s left on the coaching market if we can’t get either of them. I’m especially not keen on Mullen. He’s a retread hire who doesn’t bring any sense of excitement and energy to the program, and famously fell behind on recruiting at Florida of all places. He’s not what we need to try and stay competitive in the SEC, especially with the 9 game conference schedule starting next year.

I do not consider guys with no head coaching experience to be homerun hires. They could turn out to be great but that is far from certain based on qualifications. Stoops had one of the best defenses going as DC at FSU but I do not recall anyone suggesting he was a homerun hire.
It’s Kentucky. Best chance at elevating the program is finding a home run hire from the assistant coaching ranks.

The existing coaches they can get will all have some baggage or negatives.

Not sold on Will Stein yet. Zero head coaching experience. Absolutely nothing to show he can run an SEC program.

Kentucky absolutely screwed this up, badly.
It’s all a crapshoot with coaching hires. Even at traditionally great programs.

Florida, FSU, USC, Nebraska, Etc.

It’s why I think you go a little out of the box. Maybe the right guy isn’t someone that’s on our or anyone’s main radar.

Me personally I'd go Chesney, Hartline, then Stein. Chesney has HC experience and he's good. Hartline is known as an ace recruiter and he's been groomed at OSU, and his brother, our former QB, is on staff here now. Stein has the least experience and is the least well rounded. He's also the most likely to take it, so wouldn't be a bad plan to have him in your back pocket in case you miss out on the other 2.

Stein or Golesh for me. Sumrall was a layup. And our AD flubbed that.
I'm not gonna defend Mitch, but that wasn't a layup either. You think Sumrall just decided yesterday to go to UF? Nah, they've been talking awhile. We missed on him by not going after him last year.

I don't think he would've chose UK over UF. I just don't. UF is a T10 (maybe even T5) historic Football program. You don't turn that down if you want to make a name for yourself.

Hartline has expressed interest before as well.

He'd be a SOLID hire.

Nah, Florida booster convo got leaked. The #1 booster wanted Sumrall. #2 wanted Kiffin. Kiffin heard it and got spooked, that NIL would be short. Since he wasn't #1. This is real btw.

Still don't think that changes much of what I said. That to me means Sumrall def wasnt going to come.

Kiffin is an *** btw. Basically just flipped off his dudes and said cya. He could possibly have won a title at Ole freaking Miss. That reporter was right- Kiffin is a hoe.

Don't know why anyone would hire him. Dude's a vagabond. Leaves at the first sight of something a little better.

If Stein is successful, he might decide to stick around longer than another coach with zero ties to UK since he’s from Kentucky and his dad played here.
I’m a hard nut on a position coach as our head coach. We are an SEC school and need a guy who has experience building a program.
Sumeral was the hire and Barney waited for his buddy Scott Strickland to eat first. You think UF is gonna reccomend golden move on for UK? There is a sickness in the athletics dept. it never was cal I mean he contributed but it was Barney all along. The guy was all about compliance then all the sudden we got smacked with violations and vacating games. He is wishy washy and has laid the ground work for a lap dog golden parachute for himself. It’s a disgust

There’s quite a few position coaches that went on as successful head coaches. That doesn’t worry me too much.

That’s 100% true, the smallest increase in perceived job and he’s gone. Better watch out of Bama or OSU open up. If he does well he will already be planning 4-5 years from now exit.

Sorry, I've just gotten used to too many "experts" making grand claims with erroneous beliefs.

Are you the same guy saying we need to hire Gruden and Brian Kelly? If so, I don't want a career 500 coach who can't evaluate talent for **** or a dude who is so phony he legitimately faked an accent on national television running my football program.

Gruden thought Manziel was the next Brett Favre and drafted Tyree Wilson over Jordan Davis. Brian Kelly is more likely to stab us in the back than any other coach on the board.

Offer Stein, then Hartline and go get Mullen if both say no. Running a rertead at UK (Brooks situation was different) isn't the play and this fan base needs the juice from an exciting young offensive mind.

Good point. IU struck gold with their hire.

I know for a fact Stein was contacted after the Texas and Tennessee games, and it was in the works until the three game winning streak (that fooled no one). So Sounds like he will come if offered.
