I’d be on board with Stein or Hartline.
Not excited about Mullin but would play along. Don’t want to see Brian Kelly here.
There are probably some potential candidates that I haven’t considered.
I see Mullen as the low-risk, safe kind of hire. He would consistently have us in bowls and knocking on the door of the top 25, but likely not in real playoff contention too often. We would be solid middle of the pack in the SEC. If he decided to embrace recruiting he could be a great coach. I think he would be about the only one on our short lists who would stay for the long haul as long if he was doing what I stated. I don't think too many bigger openings will come calling for him.
Will stein a Louisville product: wth???
His daddy played for Claiborne at UK. Most of his family are UK fans.

The perception of his hire would be a home run. Whether he is ready for the job, I don’t know. Hard to tell with coordinators. Is he a primary recruiter at Oregon?

Isn’t Stein a QB guru

He's had three different QBs at Oregon and finished top 10 in offense each season. When he was OC at UTSA, Jeff Traylor was a hot name as a coach because of the offense, but not so much now.

He runs a pro/spread style that prioritizes simplicity for his QB to make the read and a quick decision.

I honestly think getting Ponatoski will be a big draw for him (aside from his ties to the area) as Oregon really wanted him.

I don't think you can go wrong with Stein or Hartline on paper. Either could be a dud but they could also kick start us as well.

Yea, who cares if we can play defense.

Have you seen us play defense this year? I hate to break it to you but if we are going to be working on getting back to competing in the SEC, we have to do so with offense.

Hell, I'd rather lose 49-35 then 21-3. The product we've had for the past 7 years doesn't draw players and damn sure doesn't generate fan interest.

As a coach, I think Stein is excellent. He seems to be a real-deal offensive guru with a great system. He is young, exciting and hungry. My only reservations about him at all mainly concern his youth. Is he well enough established in the college football world to be able to go out and get top assistants? He's going to need to surround himself with some experienced folks to help guide him until he gets his feet wet as a head man.

His offense utilizes the TE and Patterson catching the ball out of the backfield makes our returning young RB a good option, as well. The quick pass approach will also be good for Boley. I did not think Stein would consider UK, but if he will, he would really make national headlines, IMO, and provide a quick spark. I just don’t know if he is ready for the HC role.

Not to mention how hard it is to recruit QBs and WRs when this is the offensive style you give them (Stoops)?

I prefer Hartline over Stein, but would not be disappointed with hire.

I could care less about Kentucky ties, I just want to win at highest level

We were losing boring, you know that, right? It blows my mind that people just keep banging their head into the wall and getting mad it won't budge.

In other words, Id rather lose "fun" if it means winning big later. A good offensive scheme brings talent. We need that.
You're wasting your time with VHCAT. He never offers any useful insight and will argue with you if you say the sky is blue and the grass is green. He's a troll.

Stein has more OC experience over Hartline and is a QB whisperer. I like when the HC can be the QB coach. That permits you to hire and OC who may not have QB experience.

He grew up a huge UK fan and his dad played here. He walked on at U of L. He’d be a home run hire.
This. LilBro gave him a chance that he grabbed when the situation allowed him to take the field. He had excellent HS stats and I believe has the most TD passes of any Trinity QB (will be passed by current QB). He played for Beatty and his offensive coordinator Coverdale is a "offensive genious." Anyway, the roots between Trinity and UofL ran deep with the connections from Petrino, Kragthorpe, and the Brohm family ties. So don't hold his stint at LilBro against him.

I used to work for his uncle back in the day. His Dad played for UK under Claiborne. I think Stein would use us as a stepping stone, but would possibly stay longer and wait for the right job. But he could be
at my age would love a Coach good enough to use us UK as a stepping stone after a few years

I'm going to assume Coverdale. Is it a coordinator role or something more advisory?
guessing advisory/analyst at first so there isnt all the criticism over his being just a "high school" coach. Both CWS and Brian Brohm give a lot of credit for their success on the field and understanding of the game to Coverdale.

The Kentucky ties are what will possibly keep him from being poached. I feel like Hartline will bolt at the first sign of success.
