That's just dumb. If the man can win some games and a take us too a bowl this year I'd be a happy camper.

I love UKFB so I hope they go to a bowl game. Stoops was always going to be here next year regardless of the season results. That is why Barnhart gave him a massive buy out.

A bowl game is all I want every year!

If we can win 8 games every now and then, that would be awesome!!

What I don't want is to lose games to Southern Miss, and to lose on trick plays like we did to Vandy last year, and to give up big leads late in games and to get blown out by UofL!

Actually not a bad question. Truth is that it SEEMS new coaches come in and schools make immediate gains...within two years. Lots of things have to fall into place...and Kentucky is an awful hard gig. The program didn't get funded until Stoops. Poor Brooks couldn't even get a recruiting room.

This program has been behind for years on end.
A bowl game anywhere is reason to be happy, then build on that.

I wont be disappointed, but going bowling isn't the measuring stick it used to be. You now have 12 games to win 6 and over half the teams that play get to a bowl. Going to bowl isn't that big of a deal. Going to a good bowl should be the measuring stick, but Barney will squeal like a school girl over going to the toilet bowl.

Now the REAL question is what if UK loses to Mizzou and only gets one more win and ends up 5-7 yet again. Stoops would have 3 SEC wins and that with lots of injury issues this year. Will the fans fall in behind him or will some still want him booted?

Bilrus, I've always said a coach need 5 years to prove himself. I've also said he needs to show improvement in his 4th year. Even if we only win one more game, matching Coach Stoops win total the last two years, I feel the team has shown enough improvement for Coach Stoops to get another year, even though the record is the same as the last two years in W's and L's.
I feel he has shown a lot of improvement in managing as a HC, and being the faux DC. He has a lot of talent coming back, so he deserves the opportunity to coach an experienced team. I personally hope he's here a LOOOOONNG time, cause that means he's doing a GOOD JOB.

Maybe we're finally getting over the wall we have been hitting the past few years I understand that this is the worst the sec east has been maybe ever but we still have 4 wins and should have 5. With a weak missou that just lost to middle Tennessee state at home we should no doubt beat them imo so that'll be 5 and maybe Surprise some people against Georgia they haven't looked real good either especially without chub but then Austin peay is obviously a win but a bowl is a step in the right direction. Just hope we don't lose this weekend or it could be another 5 win season like the past couple years

And staying home with a losing record still sucks

If he can get this team to a bowl game after the Southern Miss disaster would take back all my negative post about him. Getting UK to a bowl every 2-3 years is all about any coach can do here. This team has gotten better but they still have a long ways to go before they can compete with really good teams like U of L or U T...

Although I have been critical of Coach Stoops and his staff, I will be ecstatic if we can finish the season with a winning record and go to a bowl game!!!

I have been disappointed in Coach Stoops performance at UK--primarily because his UK teams have not been fundamentally sound and the in-game coaching of Coach Stoops and his staff has not been fundamentally sound. As his fourth season at UK got underway, I witnessed a team and a coaching staff that was still weak on FB fundamentals (blocking, tackling, catching, route running, pass coverage, taking care of the football, decision-making, halftime adjustments, etc.). My criticism is deeply rooted in the belief that POOR FUNDAMENTALS = LOSING FOOTBALL.

I will never understand why it has taken sooooo long, but I sincerely believe that UK and its coaches are now making noticeable, albeit gradual, improvement in FB fundamentals. If Coach Stoops, his assistants, and our team can sustain and expand this improvement in fundamentals and continue recruiting at a high (for UK) level, IMHO we can have winning football at UK and bowl games can be the norm.

All most UK football fans want is a competitive and respectful product on the field. With our facilities and resources this is not unreasonable.

????

We lost a QB who was struggling mightily.

We faced NMSU without their star running back, starting olineman and linebacker, who knows what would have happened if those guys were active with as bad as we played?

Vanderbilt lost their star player in the 4th quarter against us.

Mississippi State was without 3 starters.

It looks like Missouri will have to suit up some cheerleaders with all of their injuries this week.

Injuries are part of football but we have been on the winning side of those this year.

It's a moot question OP.
Next year will be Judgement Year for Stoops.

That is my opinion also. He'll have redshirt sophomores, juniors and seniors on that squad composed of several good recruiting classes.

My biggest concern is the qb situation. Johnson appears to have all the qualities, however, his size is not made for SEC pounding. But he has done all we could ask except for ball security. Barker is a huge question mark with only an impressive star rating to prop him up. We've seen that before, unfortunately.

With that said I'm very optimistic in the direction this program is taking.

I've always maintained the scoreboard should dictate whether or not he returns. If they win 6, there's no reason to be disappointed.

The only legit debate should be whether or not UK a 6 win season should provoke MB to extend Stoops' contract once again. (It shouldn't)

Nice assessment. I agree with you. There is reason to be optimistic about next year, but this year is not over and good things may be in store the rest of the way.
