I will go on record and say that this year would have been fun to see these guys in 3A. Byron is a beast though.
They're good, but IDK if they're that good. Byron is a beast. As a fan I would like to see it though.
This is why the Top 5 Illinois Teams are:
1. Wilmington
2. Mt Carmel
3. Brother Rice
4. ESL
5. Byron

Would be way better than either of their games next week.
Would love to see LW vs Wilmo as well.
LeWin/Wilmington is week 1 next year.
El Paso-Gridley should be really good next year. I believe they're extremely young this season. Cosch Benedict did a great job with the Titans in 2025.
Byron by a lot. Wilmington has a similar offense to RB and we see how that went today.
Byron, likely a score or 2. Would depend on if Morris could get any sort of passing game going.
With a team like Byron it makes it a lot easier when they can pin their ears back and sell out against the run.
Ok, Wilmington lost to your beloved Morris by 7 and you needed a score with less than a min to win. So if Byron would beat Morris by a score or 2 how do you come up with Byron would beat Wilmington “by a lot”? doesn’t add up to me.
Literally said it in my first reply. Wilmington runs a similar offense to RB and we see how that went today.
To beat a team like Byron you need a balanced offense to keep them off balance. Wilmington can't offer that, Morris potentially could.
I love Wilmington, but Byron is a different animal and if they played the score would likely be similar to the Byron/RB game today. Byron/Morris could be similar, but if Morris could get a pass game going they would have a better chance to keep the game closer.
Byron just dominated IC who throws it a bunch.

4A has a log in his eye that he doesn’t notice when it comes to teams Morris plays.

Morris was up 13-0 vs Wilmington and 19-7 at half .Ketteman had an 80 yd run for the only Wilmington score in the half.
In the 2nd half Reents played keep away running play clock down...even saying as much to keep Morris offense off of the field.
Morris D gave up a lot of big plays this year like yesterday that hurt them.
Who would win Byron or Morris?....Doesn't really matter....we'll never know.

In week 2 LeWin plays Darlington.
I would want to see Byron vs Montini. I think Byron beats Morris by the same score as Montini won by.
Byron could play in the 4A championship against Montini and I think it would come down to the last 2 minutes.
Same in 5A.
And with the exception of Byron playing Mt Carmel and ESL, I wouldn’t be afraid of Byron being outclassed against any other team in Illinois. I’m not saying they would win against all of the others. I’m saying that they would keep it close and in some cases they could win.

EPG had a pretty promising first drive but that was pretty much the end of their offense for the night. A few first downs but I'm not so sure they crossed the 50 again in the game.
EPG was by far the fastest team in the HoI and I was curious to see how they would matchup with Wilmington's speed and it wasn't close.
Not sure what they were doing defensively but they did force Wilmington to have a few drives over 3 plays, which TV couldn't do.
Don't worry, EPG returns pretty much everyone and should have their stud WR back next year. This was a learning experience for the kids and the staff and I expect them to be the king of the HoI for a few more years.

You forgot to point out you were down 20-19 with less than a minute go. also, you needed in my opinion a trick play to take the lead. Or doesn’t that count?
Byron might win, but they would NOT beat Wilmington by a lot. Reents is no stranger to defending Byron and this years Wildcat O and D lines might be his best ever. Let's put it this way, nobody who has seen Wilmington in person this season would be surprised if the Cats won.
Neither team would beat Montini. The 2025 Broncos are loaded on both sides of the ball and deep. The QB might be the best player in the state. Just having one extra player to defend is tough and Montini has several. I see a type of game like last years 1A championship Althoff v Lena.
