Winning state titles creates scheduling conflicts for Murphy

If Murphy was closer to a larger metro area they would have more options. Not many schools want to travel 100 miles for a game.

Charlotte Catholic will do home and home games the next two seasons with teams from Louisiana and Maryland. Mallard Creek traveled to Dillon twice, Spartanburg, and Scotland. Shelby plays teams in larger classifications. Havelock will travel to Dillon this season, a 3.5 hour trip.

Last I heard Pisgah only has nine games so far. With only five conference games I don't understand why some of the other Mountain six teams don't play Murphy

I was told Murphy has hard time scheduling because you guys demand a lot. But I didn't put too much stock into that rumor, but now I wonder if it's true? I always assumed you had hard time scheduling due to your location. Maybe fans can shed a better light. I know at one time you had Brevard on your schedule. I would try to reach out to more mtn 6 teams.

I wish Murphy could've played them this past year, would've been a tough game to win but I think had they played late in the year Murphy would've given them all they wanted. I think it will be pretty difficult to beat them this year with the inexperience on Murphy's side, but could return the favor in 2020 depending on what players Christ School bring in.

Play Tarboro!!!! Im sure it would be worth the wild

Get Tarboro to travel to Murphy for a split the gate.

Sorry...No. Not that it wouldn't be a hell of a game, but its not worth the drive 8+ hours one-way at 55mph on an activity bus for Tarboro when you can schedule a game with Rocky Mount or Southern Nash and get a high quality opponent without the excessive time and expense. Go fish.

I am sure you know that I was not serious although I am not sure about the poster I replied to.

There are an adundance of equal or superior quality opponents located less than two hours travel time from Tarboro. Less than one hour to Northeastern, Rocky Mount, Northen Nash, Rose, South Central, DH Conley to name a few. Wake Forest, three time defending 4AA state champions is just over an hour. Tarboro does not appear to have the problem Murphy does and Murphy's problem is not state titles or how good they are but more their location.

If Murphy were located four hours east they could easily pick out eleven schools and go 0-11 or eleven and run the table. Sure, there are schools that may not want to play them but those are not teams that are making a deep playoff run. If Cherokee County were bordered Cleveland County I am sure the four schools in that county would have no issue playing Murphy although Crest, Shelby, and Kings Mountain may question if would benefit them on the field. I personally do not expect Murphy or Tarboor to load up on elite 3A and 4A schools. The goal is to win a state title not impress third party or non affiliated fans.

Hs Murphy ever reached out to the Big Four Charlotte schools (Christian, Country Day, Latin, Providence Day)? Those schools normally do not mind traveling for an equal opponent. May not fit the bill for Christian but the other three it may.

I think this game would generate huge interest and if played on Saturday, it would be easy for the fans to make it, and think of the crowds that would come from all over the surrounding area to see this matchup on a Saturday, when no other HS games are going on.

I live 4.5 hours from Murphy and 3.5 from Tarboro. If they played I would attend the game. I am not the usual fan. I drove to Robbinsville for the Murphy game last season. Have been to games in 16 states including going to Allen, Texas and De LaSalle (Concord, CA) on back to back weekends in 2014 to see Dutch Fork and Byrnes out of SC take on the national powers.

Murphy played Latin 10-15 years ago. Andrews and Robbinsville have played Country Day in the past.

We are hated because they can not beat us on the field.

The green eye monster known as jealousy over rules a lot of common sense on here.

I dont think it has anything to do with being scared of Murphy ,as for Ga. And Tenn. Teams they play in regions and if you dont win your region then they go by your record to get into playoffs, not every team gets in like N.C.. ,so winning non region games is very important. N.C. teams around Asheville have so many teams in their backyard to play why travel, now you add in Max preps ,you beat a 1a team no big deal ,you lose to a 1a team your on road in playoffs.

If scheduling has become this much of an issue why not play some conference opponents twice or start playing some non conference games on a Saturday?

IMO if you're going to travel 2 hours you might as well head toward the Charlotte/Gastonia area. Plenty of good teams around here to choose from.

Going there would add another 2 hours to the trip (one way). That’s quite a haul. But Murphy did travel to North Gaston three times in the early/mid 2000s.
I get the whole concerns regarding long travel but it seems obvious that they're going to have to travel in order to get a quality team to play them. I know Huss is traveling to Scotland this year on a one time deal I believe. I'd like to see Murphy against Huss next season.
