Would a 3 loss SEC champ UK make the playoff?

If the Cats continue this run they're on, and make it to Atlanta and win a rematch with Alabama, what would have to happen for UK to make the playoff?

Don't see how the SEC champ could be left out.

It would be as simple as you winning the lottery tonight without buying a ticket. Not going to happen. They would leave any three loss team out. Have you been drinking?

I would never put the question out on this forum because we like to eat our young, but I can't lie and say I don't daydream about making them tell us 'no'. Sugar Bowl would be a decent consolation prize! :joy:

It won't happen, but it is an interesting question to pose simply as a hypothetical, especially when you consider this.

If Kentucky beats Mizzou this week, and Georgia next week, they'll be ranked heading into Knoxville.
Kentucky would play a top 20 Tennessee team at Knoxville, a win there would put Kentucky in the top 15 most likely (factoring win streak and away win in Knoxville against a ranked team).
Kentucky would play a top 6 team in the nation (Louisville) at the pizza pit. A win there would almost certainly boost Kentucky into the top 8-10 spot.
Then it would be a top 10 Kentucky team against a dominant #1 team in Alabama at the SECCG, winning there would put Alabama anywhere between #1 and #3, and Kentucky anywhere between #4 and #6. Having the title of SEC Champion would certainly give you a strong argument, especially when you end your season on a 8 game winning streak (3 of your last 4 against top 20 teams), with your last win over the top team in the country, that happened to be your last loss at their home field in Tuscaloosa.
People also recognize that the Kentucky from the first 2 weeks isn't even close to the current Kentucky team in terms of performance, and the Southern Miss loss would be called a big fluke, so now you're in the argument for that top 4 spot.

Like I said though, won't happen. Would be thrilled beyond measure if it did, but it won't.

I think we win this weekend and against mizzou and then beat Georgia. You think that will put us in the top 25? That would be awesome! GO CATS!!

An awfully lot of the " old If'in game" would have to happen before this could be a remote possibility!

Won't happen. And the playoff committee picks the "best 4" without specific regard for conference champions. So if your scenario actually played out a 1 loss 'Bama team is in before a 3 loss UK team.

Peace

That's the dream scenario for most of the media / college football world: any excuse to keep an SEC team out of the playoff.

We will not be ranked with wins the next 2 weeks over a 2-7 or 3-6 Missouri team and most likely a 4-5 UGA team. We would have wins against teams with the following current records:

2-5
3-4
4-4
2-5
2-5
4-3

You don't go 6-3, with wins over those 6 teams and become ranked. It just doesn't happen.

I have a better chance of Kate Upton showing up at my door tonight wanting to get naked than a 3 loss team does of making the playoff.

Pass it to the left. We have yet to beat a team above .500. And you want to think playoffs.

Tell that to Washington and Nebraska.

You mean those two undefeated teams?
They have beaten no one, and are highly ranked. You say we would not be ranked with wins over bad teams. Nebraska and Washington, even though undefeated, have beaten no good teams. I think 1 has beaten a team over .500.

And I am saying look at the teams Washington and Nebraska have beaten. They are about the same quality. So yes you can beat losers and still get ranked.
It is more about when you when than who you beat.

You forgot the part about losing 3 games. If those teams were 6-3 with their schedule, they would not be ranked.

depends on how we win.
If we win with a shut out of every team limiting them to under 200 yards of total offense and we put up 50 points on everybody including Bama then we would be in. Of course that is in lala land as well.

Troll thread but here goes anyway , we have a decent chance to finish third in the east behind UT and UF . A small chance to finish second and very little chance at first unless we beat UT , mostly due to the Vols remaining schedule . The goal should be six and a bowl , I think we're a year away from having a chance to fight for the division . Unless the universe is aligning in ways a UK fb fan wouldn't comprehend , in that scenario we win the sec .

Tell that to Washington and Nebraska.

Do even know where Washington and Nebraska started out in the preseason polls ??? We started in the 90's, low 100's, they I would guess started preseason top 25-35. When you win 6-7 in a row starting from there, yeah, you move up, not down. When you start in the 90's, lose the first game to a team like Southern Miss, then get blown out the next game, yeah, you are not gaining top 25 votes beating cupcakes. Surely you where not serious, do not answer that.

As a matter of fact, when we where 4-1 , 5-1 a couple different years, we never sniffed the top 25, because we started way back, lost early.

In order for us to win the East we have to win out and Florida has to lose two of @LSU, @Arky, UGA and USCjr

That's not impossible but it's pretty improbably IMO.
