Do you really think that if Auburn, Ole Miss, Tennessee, Louisville or even Alabama were looking for a new coach that this would have any effect at all?

100% yes it would. NO WAY Briles get's a top notch job as is first gig. I'm not sure people truly understand how much time, effort and resources are put into preventing and dealing with sexual assault on campuses these days...it is about as hot of a topic as their is. I just don't see any way a major program hires this guy. I don't see any way a president giving the green light. Could he end up at a major college again someday (although he might be too old)? possibly, but it's going to be a long road back to that.

Briles is not getting any FCS or FBS job anytime soon. Way too much baggage for anyone to even take a chance.

That's what everyone said about Petrino. Also, Proce was not fired for a lap dance, he was fired because he used an Alabama university charge card.

I really don't understand how some of you are still equating having an affair with a grad student and covering up sexual assault from your players. The line of unacceptable moral negligence is clearly way before the latter.

Yep. This issue transcends sports - it's a political issue in a very politicized time. An AD that hires Petrino or Leach or fill in the blank name of a more or less controversial coach has to deal with sports fans and ESPN and the local sports reporters.

The AD who hires Briles is going to have to deal with NBC and the NYTimes and feminists and well organized/well funded protesters. Different atmosphere altogether......

Agree there's a gulf between Petrino's record and Briles' record - but you can't really compress the list of Petrino wrongdoings into "affair with grad student."

I was just going to say the same thing. Petrino hired his mistress in a merit position for which she had no experience. Lied to his employer multiple times to cover up the affair. And lied to prior employers about interviews with other universities or concealed his interest in other jobs.

All of that is really bad, but not anywhere near covering up sexual assault. Most ADs wouldn't touch either candidate.

I'm not the $ betting type, but I am willing to bet an ice-cold Coke-Cola that Briles is sitting in the HC chair at a pretty prestigious gig w/in two years. As we know from up the road, "Everybody deserves a second (third, fourth, fifth, sixth, ..., 50th, etc.) chance..."

I don't think any of the schools you mentioned, but Otis (he would have the perfect resume for them) would consider him because of his age.

I actually used to respect Louisville football-- but hiring Petrino was so wrong I can't even wrap my mind around it.

Briles is probably going to bounce around for a while. Consulting/advisory gigs with NFL. Maybe offensive assistant/quality control in college.

Not out of the realm of possibility that he gets Sam Houston State type of gig after laying low for a couple years or Ark Pine Bluff, Jacksonville St, etc...

But up the road is the only school that behaves this way , so Briles to UL is a lock should scooter bolt .

Sorry guys....I didn't think Petrino deserved a shot, but goodness...his problems involved consenting adults...or consenting adulterers if you will.

This thing about Baylor is horrific. Kinda shut the whole thing down type of horrific.

Doubt the man gets much of a shot unless WKU opens up again.

It's amazing how many people think Bobby Neckbrace was fired for having an affair. If that was all that happened, he would have never even gotten a reprimand, much less fired.

One of these days you guys will figure out winning cures all ills. Nobody cares about after the fact, it's all forgotten until losing happens

On the nose. He is currently a consultant for the Cleveland Browns. His hiring did not play well on some of sports talk up here.

Who's the poster that goes off on huge rants about nothin being proven on briles?
Me, what was proven? I'm not sure why asking for actual evidence is such a sin. What did he do? I read a vague excerpt about he knew about rapes and didnt report them to the police. well I have questions. How did he find out about the rapes, did he walk in on it, did the players confess to him, did the victim call the football coach instead of the police? None of these pass my common sense test. What are the details in this case or should we not care about details and specifics?

I in no way condone rape, rape culture, or any of the sort. I just need details before I participate in ruining a mans life.

Keyser Sose or whatever. He's obsessed with Briles.

Mention Briles or Matt Jones and the obsession comes out. Kind of scary.
Oh jeez. You're obsessed with me. Say one thing about your god Matt Jones and you get all in your feelings.

At least on this issue, you've fooled all of us. Who knew you had a common sense test? Why don't you just sit back and watch what happens with Briles. As in, nothing. He is can't be hired as a college HC in our current environment. Whether you're satisfied or not is entirely irrelevant.
