Young Crimson Tide fans typically have very few things to complain about. Ever since they could remember Alabama football, the team has been really, really good. But this season, they have a request.

The music in Bryant-Denny Stadium is too old, apparently.

Aaron Suttles, the Alabama beat reporter for The Athletic, provided some additional context from last week’s game against Southern Miss. During the playing of a cover of Old Crow Medicine Show’s famous song “Wagon Wheel,” Suttles tweeted “Alabama plays the weirdest songs to get fan involvement.”

“Please [University of Alabama] i beg of you to let someone under the age of 47 pick the songs,” tweeted one younger Crimson Tide fan in response to Suttles’ tweet.

Suttles added that they played Sheck Wes’ “Mo Bamba” and the 1996 hit song “Let Me Clear My Throat” by DJ Kool next.

Three days ago, Class of 2019 Alabama graduate Jackson Knight even started a “Revitalize the Bryant-Denny Stadium Soundtrack” petition which is approaching 500 signatures. The petition asks for “more AC/DC and less of The Killers, more Kendrick Lamar and less Maroon 5.”

Alabama athletic director Greg Byrne heard the cries about the tunes, and decided to take matters into his own hands. Byrne joked on Twitter on Thursday that he has hired Maroon 5 lead singer Adam Levine, who of course is mentioned above in the petition as a music choice younger fans would like to hear less frequently, to consult on the stadium music from here on out.

But seriously, an update to the music would pair well with the new LED lights installed around the perimeter of the stadium, which were part of an extensive renovation to Bryant-Denny in 2019. Reportedly, some of the music has been adapted to fit the light show, a feature that several teams across the country are now adding, but the Crimson Tide faithful would like more.

Maybe they’ll now get it. They have the athletic director’s attention.
