Alabama released its annual report this week, detailing self-reported minor violations by Crimson Tide programs. Six programs self-reported Level II and Level III violations during the 2021-22 school year, meaning the penalties aren’t as severe as Level I violations.

The Alabama men’s basketball team self-reported three violations, according to the report. In July, the program reported two minor violations, including a player participating in a 4×4 tournament that wasn’t NCAA-approved. The athlete ended up being ruled ineligible and suspended for the first two games once they were able to compete again.

Shortly after that, some media members attended a summer skill instruction, which led to multiple responses. The athletic department sent three letters of admonishment — two to basketball staff members and one to a communications staffer — and requested one of the broadcast stations edit out the footage.

Finally, in August, Alabama hired a football strength and conditioning coach, and that hire led to IAWP — which stands for individual associated with a prospect — status once the athlete enrolled at the school. As a result, the athlete ended up being ruled ineligible and the university tried to get them reinstated.

The women’s basketball team also self-reported a violation when a coach accidentally texted a class of 2025 recruit before the date to send recruiting materials. Because of that, the staff wasn’t allowed to send recruiting materials for 30 days after the date they could start.

All told, the Alabama track and field team self-reported four violations, including one about Required Athletically Related Activities. Programs are to give athletes one day off during the season and two days off during the offseason. The Crimson Tide program gave two athletes just one outside of the season responded by giving the athletes two additional days off.
