Danny Lewis is known as “The Dinosaur” where he resides in New Iberia, Louisiana. It’s all about the unique blend of size and athleticism that’s opened the door for Lewis to thrive on the court, on the diamond and the football field.

On Wednesday, the three-star tight end inked with Alabama over LSU. The Crimson Tide offered Lewis a month ago, which instantly led the recent state championship-winning recruit to reshuffle his official visit plans.

The Alabama visit blew Lewis’ mind, one source told On3. Nick Saban took a lead role in recruiting the Louisiana native while defensive coordinator Pete Golding, a Bayou State native, was critical in closing.

The Crimson Tide’s depth chart was a decisive factor, the source said.

In December, Lewis led New Iberia (La.) Westgate to the school’s first-ever state championship. “The Dinosaur” was the game’s Most Outstanding Player after reeling in six catches for 179 yards, including a 60-yard touchdown.

Lewis is No. 31-ranked tight end in the country, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. On3 rates him as the No. 27 player at his position.

Alabama sits with the No. 2 class in the On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Rankings. The Tide signed four players out of Louisiana this cycle, including Lewis, Kendrick Law, Aaron Anderson and Shazz Preston.
