Alabama edge Will Anderson is no stranger to making plays, as he essentially lived in the backfield of offenses all of last year causing sacks and tackles for loss left and right. But this weekend he contributed in a new way, securing his first career interception and touchdown for the Crimson Tide on a 25-yard interception return for a score. It’s also the first turnover for the Crimson Tide defense this season, which apparently came with a pretty sweet prize.

“It’s crazy because in the locker room before the game we was talking as a defense and was like, everybody gotta put in $20 for whoever gets the first turnover, so I got the first turnover so everybody’s gotta give me $20,” Anderson said.

Anderson walked through the play, as he leaped high in the air to secure the interception off of a tipped screen pass attempt and broke a tackle on his way to the end zone, in a moment it sounds like he won’t forget.

“When I was on the field I was kind of shocked that I had it, and then when I started running I was even more shocked, and then when I stiff-armed him, it was just like shock kept coming,” Anderson said excitedly. “But when we got to the end zone it was fun just to see how excited my teammates were for me, it was most definitely a top-five moment since I’ve been here.”

Anderson was asked about his winnings from the bet placed by members of the Alabama defense and how many people threw into the turnover sweepstakes jackpot. But it sounds like he got some pushback, and will have to make his rounds to come and collect his winnings if he wants them.

“We gotta see because they’re playing right now, they keep saying they’re trying to bring up this NIL stuff saying ‘Will Anderson doesn’t need it’. I tell them it’s horse crap, so I’m gonna get my $20 out of everybody,” Anderson smiled and said.

Kool-Aid McKinstry has strong message when asked about Will Anderson’s pick-six

Alabama‘s 63-7 rout of Louisiana-Monroe was full of highlight plays for the Crimson Tide, but the biggest may have been edge rusher Will Anderson‘s 25-yard interception return for a touchdown. Anderson’s teammate cornerback Ga’Quincy ‘Kool-Aid’ McKinstry spoke about his big play.

“What he can’t do man?” McKinstry laughed and said. “I mean I’ve done seen it all, that’s actually my first time seeing him catch an interception.”

Anderson is no stranger to making plays, they just usually come in the form of sacks and tackles for loss. His interception Saturday was the first of his career at Alabama as well as his first touchdown, as he high-pointed a tipped screen pass and broke a tackle on his way to the end zone. McKinstry spoke a little bit more about the play and about Anderson as a teammate.

“It was very exciting for us as a defensive unit and were just proud of him. He brings so much energy to the team as a whole,” McKinstry said.
