For the second time, former Alabama men’s basketball player Darius Miles has been denied bond. A hearing took place on Wednesday morning at the Tuscaloosa County Courthouse. Miles has been in jail since Jan. 15 after being indicted with capital murder.

Circuit court judge Daniel Pruet overlooked the hearing, making the same decision as the district court judge. The initial hearing took place back in February, nearly a month after the fatal shooting of Jamea Harris took place in Tuscaloosa.

Miles is not believed to be the one who killed Harris but did supply the firearm. Michael Davis has been indicted alongside Miles and is thought to be who pulled the trigger.

According to the Tuscaloosa News, Davis was supposed to have a bond hearing on Wednesday as well. However, it’s been pushed back to late July as Davis’ attorney has filed for youthful offender status. Pruet will be in charge of that hearing too but for now, the state of Alabama is undergoing a background check on Davis.

Cedric Johnson, the boyfriend of Harris and father to their son, was present at the hearing — wearing a heart necklace with a photo of Harris and their son. He was served a subpoena by the defense. Johnson had previously not been in attendance for the hearing that took place in February.

Former Alabama teammates attend Darius Miles hearing

When Miles was arrested back in January, he was immediately kicked off the team. Alabama was fresh off a monster win at home against LSU and beginning what wound up being an SEC regular championship season for them. Nate Oats went forward without Miles but not without some controversy surrounding his program.

Even so, some Crimson Tide players showed up to Wednesday to their former teammates’ hearing. Two were considered veteran leaders on the 2022-2023 team.

Jaden Quinerly, Jahvon Quinerly and Noah Gurley attended the bond hearing today for Darius Miles,” Nick Kelly of the Tuscaloosa News said via Twitter.

Gurley was a senior for Alabama last season, playing a critical role during the postseason for Oats. He did not have the biggest impact on the court but when put in the big moment, he delivered.

As for Jahvon Quinnerly, he featured as the main point guard. There is still a possibility he returns to Tuscaloosa for another year but is currently going through the NBA Draft process.

His brother, Jaden, was a walk-on and did not see much game time.
