Alabama hasn’t won less than 10 games in a season under Nick Saban since his inaugural run in Tuscaloosa. However, going undefeated is a whole different issue, specifically with the doubt surrounding this Crimson Tide team. Still, FOX Sports’ Joel Klatt has as good a chance as anyone to run the table.

Klatt answered the question of whether Alabama could go undefeated or not on ‘Breaking The Huddle‘ this week. He says the lack of usual strength in the SEC West really bolsters the Tide’s chances in getting that feat accomplished.

“They’ve only done it a couple of times under Nick Saban. But, this year, I wouldn’t put it past them,” said Klatt. “First, I always look at the division. Is it going to be easier to get out of the division undefeated? And, actually, when you look at the SEC West, it’s not great this year as opposed to what it has been in the past, in particular with Texas A&M struggling to the degree that they’re struggling…They can easily sweep the SEC West.”

While some of their upcoming competition is still ranked, Klatt is correct about some of the concerns when it comes to the division. The Tide already took down Arkansas by 20-plus in Fayetteville with their backup quarterback leading them. Plenty of people are still determining what Mississippi State and Ole Miss are. Finally, not everyone is sold on either of Texas A&M or LSU after the start of their seasons.

If Alabama can get out of Tennessee next weekend with a win, an undefeated regular season may already be in grasp. With that said, they’ll take a significant step up in competition come the postseason. Klatt isn’t too worried because of the program’s pedigree and his opinion that they’re the best team in the country. As long as they have Bryce Young, he thinks they could definitely finish the year 15-0.

“Then it becomes can you beat Georgia, most likely in the SEC Championship game, and then get through the playoff? That remains to be seen,” Klatt said. “It all has to do with the health of their quarterback, Bryce Young. If he can get back, be healthy, and can stay on the field, then they’ve got a great chance to go undefeated. I still think that’s probably the best team in the country, in particular because of how good their defense is. So, yes, there’s a good chance Alabama goes undefeated.”

A lot of football has still yet to be played before Alabama does something they’ve only done twice under Saban. They have the pieces to do it, though, and Klatt laid out the road map to get it done. It’s now on them to complete that task as they push onward this weekend against the Aggies.
