As NFL executives gather to watch Alabama’s Pro Day on Wednesday, they will not get the opportunity to see wide receiver John Metchie after his injury. Despite his on-field absence, he attended the event and spoke with reporters.

While talking with SEC Network reporter Chris Doering asked John Metchie about a wide variety of topics, including the end of the 2021 season and his injury.

“I would say it went well,” said Metchie. “Of course we weren’t able to finish the way we wanted and that’s really what it’s all about, getting that ring at the end. Personally, there was a lot I wanted to do more, and that just goes onto my goals for next season. And as a team I think we did really well, we gelled together. We just wanted to finish.”

While the disappointment from 2021 lingers, he now focuses on the future and a difficult road to recovery before his first NFL game.

“It’s been tough,” said Metchie. It’s definitely had it’s battles, but personally I have a lot of faith. I know that it’s God’s plan and I’ve just got to roll with it and give it my best.

However, Metchie is not concerned about his skillset and technical rout-running after the injury.

“No, not at all,” said Metchie. “I’m excited to get back out there and I’m going to be running routes harder than I was before so not at all.”

As he continues the rehab process in Florida with his family, Metchie broke down what the next month looks like as the NFL Draft approaches.

“I think it’s just continuing what we’re doing of meeting with teams, talking with teams and just keeping my head down and working. Just keeping my head down and working and being with my family.

John Metchie discusses Canadian music

In a previously recorded interview with SEC Network’s Marty Smith, John Metchie revealed that he listens to fellow Canadian Drake during pregame workouts, along with other popular rappers. After a humorous exchange in the SEC Network studio about music choice and the need for all Canadians to stick together, the wide receiver answered some hard-hitting questions.

First, Doering asked whether all Canadians are required to not only listen to Drake, but like his music.

“Yeah, you have to,” said Metchie. “I do.”

A follow-up question forced Metchie to think about the many other Canadian musicians who have also produced great songs and pick his second favorite among them.

“There’s a lot,” said Metchie. “You’ve got The Weeknd, you’ve got Celine Dion. Lots of artists come out of Canada, lots of musicians.”
