Nate Oats provides updated injury timetable for Jahvon Quinerly

On Friday evening, Alabama head basketball coach Nate Oats provided fans with an update on their star point guard, Jahvon Quinerly. He told Charlie Potter of BamaOnline, “I think he’s right on pace. We were hoping to get him back by SEC play. We might get him back earlier,” Oats said.

In the Crimson Tide’s loss to Notre Dame in the 2022 NCAA Tournament on March 18, Quinerly suffered a left knee injury in the opening minutes of the game and has been rehabbing since.

Speaking with Charlie Potter of BamaOnline prior to the Regions Tradition Pro-Am from the Greystone Golf and Country Club in Birmingham on Wednesday, May 11th, Oats gave some positive news regarding the Alabama star.

“We’re hoping by SEC play. If his recovery goes great, maybe sooner,” Oats revealed, via Potter. “But we’re not gonna try to rush him because we want him to have a healthy year when he’s able to play.”

Furthermore, Jahvon Quinerly is returning to Alabama for his senior campaign in 2022-2023. After averaging 13.8 points, 4.2 assists and 3.0 rebounds per game while shooting 41.1% from the field last season, it’s evident the star guard played a significant role in the Crimson Tide’s success – meaning his return is a big deal.

Quinerly – a former On3 Consensus five-star recruit out of the Class of 2018 – has been an important part of Alabama’s team over the past two seasons. After averaging 12.9 points per game in 2020-2021, Quinerly improved his numbers last year and should be able to take another step forward next season.

Jahvon Quinerly’s best game of the 2021-2022 campaign came in a win over South Dakota State on Nov. 12, as he put up 26 points, eight assists and five rebounds. The talented guard scored in double figures 23 times last season.
