New England Patriots quarterback Mac Jones left Sunday afternoon’s game against the Baltimore Ravens hobbling off the field after he threw an interception late in the fourth quarter. He couldn’t put weight on his left leg at all and went immediately to the locker room. Obviously, if the Patriots lose him, it’s going to be a massive loss for them and their season. The former Alabama star appeared to be in a lot of discomfort and pain as he was hobbling off the field and being carried into the locker room. Against the Ravens on Sunday, Jones completed 22 of 32 pass attempts for 321 passing yards, while tossing in no touchdowns and three interceptions. He also had five rushes for 31 yards on the ground and one rushing touchdown.

Following the game, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported on Twitter that Jones had X-rays on his left ankle following the game and they were negative. The ankle will continue to be monitored.

On the play where the injury occurred, Jones was tackled by Ravens’ defensive tackle Calais Campbell, who rolled up on his back lower left leg as he went down. When the Patriots quarterback got up from the play, he was immediately hobbling on one leg and appeared to be in a severe amount of pain. He left the game with 1:56 remaining in the fourth quarter. New England lost to the Ravens by a score of 37-26.

It’s the second injury of the 2022 season for Jones, as he also suffered a back injury against the Miami Dolphins in the team’s season opener this year. In that 20-7 loss, Jones completed 21 of 30 passes for 213 yards, one touchdown and one interception. He also rushed twice for no gain and lost a fumble. Although he took several big hits in that game, including two sacks for a loss of 20 yards, Jones managed to play through the final whistle.

The Patriots offense has struggled mightily this season without their old offensive coordinator, Josh McDaniels, who left to become the head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders in the offseason.

The new offense they’ve installed has not helped Mac Jones, who has somehow regressed in his second season in the National Football League. He’s only thrown two touchdowns, while tossing in five interceptions through three games. Patriots head coach Bill Belichick, for unknown reasons, decided that not hiring an offensive coordinator was a great idea. Matt Patricia and Joe Judge have been in charge of the New England offense this year and it hasn’t looked pretty. It’s a very puzzling move by Belichick and doesn’t make a lot of sense.

Jones finished his rookie season last year finishing second in Offensive Rookie of the Year voting behind Ja’Marr Chase of the Cincinnati Bengals. He completed 67.6 percent of his passes, while throwing for 3,801 passing yards and 22 touchdowns.
