It’s not just Bryce Young’s cannon that makes the Alabama quarterback successful. Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban thinks the sophomore has the intangibles, too.

“Well, I think it is his personality,” Saban said on Monday. “He’s got it together. He does the right things off the field, he is really well-grounded as a person. Very smart, he’s bright, he makes good choices and decisions and everything that he does. I think that’s just who he is.

“I think it’s an asset, especially for his level of experience to have that demeanor because he doesn’t get frustrated. He can go play the next play. He can make a lot of good plays, but I think he is constantly learning and developing as we go as he’s making these plays.”

Through four games, the former five-star quarterback has amassed 1,124 yards passing with a 72.1% completion percentage and a 15-to-1 touchdown-interception ratio. Young is in the top 25 in passing yards per game in the country and top 15 in completion percentage.

The Pasadena, California, native is leading undefeated Alabama into what should be an offensive showdown versus No. 12 Ole Miss on Saturday. Ole Miss has the No. 1 scoring offense in the country, putting up 52.7 points per game. Alabama trails at No. 4 in the nation with 46.5 points per game.

As things sit, the Crimson Tide are 17.5-point favorites as of Tuesday, according to VegasInsider.com. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. ET on CBS.

Bryce Young named Bama POW after Southern Miss performance

On Saturday, Alabama extended its win streak to 18 games with a 63-14 victory over Southern Miss. A week after a tough road game against Florida, the results against the Golden Eagles were encouraging as the Tide prepares to welcome Ole Miss in Week 5.

Alabama’s coaching staff named seven Players of the Week on Monday. Two on offense, two on defense and three on special teams. Young joined running back Roydell Williams on the offensive award list:

RB Roydell Williams: Came in as the second running back behind Jase McClellan and rushed for a team-high 110 yards on only 11 carries. His long was a 55-yard scamper that put Alabama in scoring position.

QB Bryce Young: Completed 20 of his 22 pass attempts for 313 yards and five touchdowns. His 90.9 percent completion percentage set a school record for a player with a minimum of 20 completions.
