The University of Alabama board of trustees’ compensation committee approved a new contract extension for head coach Nick Saban, according to multiple reports. The committee also agreed to the compensation for new assistant football coach Drew Svoboda, among others.

In June, Alabama athletic director Greg Byrne announced Saban’s new contract extension that would run through Feb. 28, 2029. Saban’s base salary will remain steady at $275,000, but his talent fee will increase from $8.425 million in 2021 to $11.225 million in the final years of the contract.

“Our family calls Tuscaloosa and the state of Alabama home, it’s a place where our roots now run deep’” Saban said in a June press release. “This agreement gives us the chance to continue to impact the lives of the young men and their families who choose to play football and get an education at Alabama.”

Continued success

Saban is entering his 15th year at Alabama and 26th overall. He holds a 170-23 record with the Crimson Tide since 2007 and has won six national titles over the past 12 seasons, including in 2020. Alabama has won the SEC Championship game seven times under Saban with 10 SEC West regular season titles.

Following his seventh national championship victory overall in January, Saban is now under contract for another eight seasons at Alabama. Last year’s title-winning season was widely considered one of the best coaching jobs of his storied career, going a 13-0 overall and 11-0 against SEC competition.

New additions

During the board of trustees’ March meeting, it approved the contracts of all new assistant football coaches. Svoboda however, was not added to the staff until April and therefor required approval in the mid-year meeting. Svoboda will serve as the teams special teams coordinator and tight end coach.

In addition, the University of Alabama approved the contracts of 10 other Alabama head coaches. Among them are baseball coach Brad Bohannon and softball coach Patrick Murphy.
