Alabama will be without starting quarterback and 2021 Heisman winner Bryce Young during their home game against Texas A&M on Saturday. According to Pro Football Network’s Aaron Wilson, Young is being held out vs. A&M as a precaution after he was hurt during last weekend’s win over Arkansas.

Here was Wilson’s report, which he tweeted:

“Alabama quarterback Bryce Young (sprained AC joint shoulder) is expected to miss Saturday’s game against Texas A&M as a precautionary measure after getting hurt against Arkansas, per a college football source @PFN365 #RollTide”

So no Bryce Young for the Crimson Tide on Saturday. Instead, it will be the backup, Jalen Milroe getting the start after he played a bit last week in lieu of Young. Tide still likely the heavy favorites at home against a reeling Aggies squad, even without its star QB.

Nick Saban praises Milroe’s leadership amid Young injury

Whether it was Bryce Young or Jalen Milroe taking the first snap Saturday vs. Texas A&M, Nick Saban is comfortable. Now that Young is officially out, Saban’s comments earlier in the week regarding Milroe’s leadership abilities are all the more relevant.

Here was the Alabama coach on the backup QB who has been forced into a starting role and how he’s already gaining respect from teammates.

“I think the players have responded really well to what he’s had to do,” stated Saban. “I think, you know, what we try to get our guys to do is focus on doing your job, and if everybody does their job, we’re going to have a chance to be successful. It doesn’t really matter who’s in there playing, I’ve got to do my job. When I get the opportunity to do it, I’ve got to be prepared to do it, and go do it well.

“Sometimes that’s harder for guys to do who aren’t starters. But I think it’s a real test to your character if you can do it, so you can take advantage of the opportunity when it comes. Which I thought Jalen did a pretty good job of last week. Hopefully we can build on that if he has to play this week.”
